Tues. 9th May. After breakfast Maudie & I went to town & bought her a navy tailor-made costume for the winter. Kitty Wells called this evening & collected Altar money from Maudie, I and the 3 boys.

Wed. 10th May. Posted letter to Daddy at Yellanup Soak mid-day, & received one to tell of his safe arrival at Katanning, tho' slight train accident on the journey, running into a cattle truck. Maudie went in aftn. to Mrs. Lethbridge's for re-touching lesson.

Thurs. 11th May. Kitty Wells called in evening to see proofs of her photos & stayed for some music & coffee.

Fri. 12th May. Mrs. Sloan & Mary came up from Fremantle and stayed to lunch. She wanted some of our white chrysanthemums for her baby's grave.

Sat. 13th May. After breakfast I went to post a letter etc., to Mrs. Sloan at the G.P.O., & while gone Daddy returned home unexpectedly, having been wired for by the Govt.

Mon. 15th May. Daddy went up to the office & Les and Maudie caught the 7.35 train to Midland to start his new studio. Les went up yesterday and took the fire brigade men with Mr. Botts (?).

Tues. 16th May. Daddy went to Midland to find 2 more men to do the extra work wanted.

Wed. 17th May. Daddy & I went to early Mass as he is leaving for Katanning again this evening. Phyllis is home this week with mumps. Had a letter from Mrs. Sloan to-day. No sitters yet at Les's studio. The boys brought their yacht home last night for the winter. I have started a bad cold to-day, so Daddy will not allow me to Mass tomorrow.

Thurs. 18th May. Telegram from Daddy from Katanning. Leslie had his 1st sitter - a little boy.

Fri. 19th May. Letter from Daddy from Katanning, just leaving for Yellanup Soak. Posted him one at noon. Paid a little visit to Mrs. Hedges in aftn., & Hilda brought an invitation for Maudie to Eileen O'Connor's birthday party.

Sat. 20th May. Another letter from Daddy this morning, who parts with Cahill to-day and takes 2 new men on, out to the soak. After my lie down, I took Phyllis & Dollie to town with me & bought 2 photo frames as birthday presents for Eileen O'Connor and Marian Cooper, and flowers for the

church, where I went at 5.30, & Maudie arranged them on the Altar.

Sun. 21st May. Gave Mena Shutz for Catechism, her framed picture of "Our Lady of Good Counsel". Kitty Wells, Eileen & Bessie O'Connor & Marian Cooper came down this aftn. and Les photoed them to put the latter in our frames. Having a bad cold, I decided to go to 11 Mass instead of the evening, so heard Dr. Clune's 1st address in our church as Bishop, when he formally installed Father Fagan as our new parish priest. Colonel Campbell called after evening church for me to sign a protest against a hospital to be in our street, but I had gone to bed, so he left word he would come again in the morning.

Mon. 22nd May. Walked up to 7 Mass with Horace. Eric and Humfrey were also there. Paid a visit to Mrs. Campbell as the Colonel did not come, & heard all about her grievance over a hospital to be made next door. Kitty Wells called in evening to see her proofs. Had another letter from our dear Daddy.

Tues. 23rd May. Went to 7 Mass with Eric -Humfrey was on the Altar - he started his fort-night's holiday yesterday. Maudie returned from Midland by 3.30 to get ready for Eileen & Mar-ian's party, & brought their photos with her, 2 framed and 2 mounted cabinets, which the nuns thought very good. Eric fetched her home at 10, also Doris & Hilda.

Wed. 24th May. Went to 7 Mass with Humfrey, and then he went for the day to Leslie's studio at Midland Junction. Posted letter to Daddy.

Thurs. 25th May. Ascension Day. All went to Mass except Leslie, who had to catch the 7.30 train, and Phyllis, on a/c of her mumps; but Leslie came to Benediction with Maudie and me in the evening. Maudie got the morning off to go to the Technical School for her drawing lesson.

Fri. 26th May. Humfrey came to Mass with me.

Sat. 27th May. Mrs. Sloan & Mary called in aftn. for some flowers. I went to Mrs. Shine's & bought Maudie a "Golden Grains" book to take in the train on her way to work. Eric & I went to Rosary this evening.

Sun. 28th May. All overslept, so had to go to 9 Mass. Mercy Scott came down at 3 o'clock, & Leslie photoed her in her 1st Com. clothes, and afterwards took a group of my Sunday School children. Then Mother Brigid sent for him to photo Our Lady's Canopy, for the last Sunday in May. All went to Benediction except Horace, who minded the house.

Mon. 29th May. All slept too late to get to Mass. I had to stay and help Maudie catch her train. Had a lovely long letter mid-day from my Daddy coming home Thursday morning.

Tues. 30th May. Went to Mass with Eric, Humfrey on the Altar.

Wed. 31st May. Went to 9 Mass. Saw S. M. Claver afterwards & settled to do the S. H. Altar this afternoon for 1st Friday, as Daddy was coming to-morrow. Sent Humfrey down town to buy the flowers as I'm not feeling too well. It then came on to rain for the rest of the day, so I could not get up to the church. Received letter from my mother offering to send one of my paintings.

Thurs. 1st June. Felt too ill to go to Mass -Maudie went up early & did my Altar. Just managed to get everything ready for our dear Daddy & then went to bed, really ill, at 11.30 with internal cold & fever, just as he arrived. Auntie Blanche sent Maudie a handk. sachet painted by herself.

Fri. 2nd June. Still much the same, but no worse, so did not send for a doctor, but kept in bed for the 2nd day, neither eating or drinking - this evening felt getting better. Maudie stayed home from Midland to run the house. Schools gave a holiday to-day. None of us able to go to S. Heart meeting.

Sat. 3rd June. Still improving - took tonic & a little food - all fever gone. Maudie staying home again to-day. I got out of bed for an hour this evening & sat with Daddy by the bedroom fire. Horace & Eric got their 1st beating at Lacrosse this season. They played at Midland.

Sun. 4th June. Still a little better. Daddy went to 7 Mass with Maudie & boys. Maudie took my Sunday School class and sold 6 of Les' photos of them for 6d. each - mounted cabinets. Kitty Wells came in & saw me middle day, also Mercy Scott. Partly dressed and went in the drawing-room for aftn. tea - stayed there on the sofa till 8.30 with Daddy. Children went to Benediction & Procession. Daddy went thro' Leslie's books with him and decided Maudie should stay home with me for the present, & re-touch here, & the other girl go next week - he running the studio alone till he got going better.

Mon. 5th June. Daddy went alone to 7 Mass. Public Holiday. Humfrey drowned our Mrs. Tabby for 6d. Maudie went to see the Fallons, as Kathleen wants Les to do an enlargement of her. Phyllis took the school photos to Mrs. Hedges, who bought one.

Mon. 3rd July. Posted my Mother a gilt frame containing photo of Daddy & self, also a W.A. swan jam spoon from Horace & Eric for their Golden Wedding next month.

Mon. 10th July. Posted a framed enlargement of Maudie by Leslie, 3/4 length, from herself to Grandma.

Tues. 28th July. Daddy left us at 7.30 a.m. to go to Gnowangerup, via Broomehill.

Sat. 29th July. Phyllis had her promised birthday party, put off since May. Doris & Hilda Hedges, Dulcie & Mercy Scott & Vera Howard came to tea, & Molly & Stevey Scott came in for games & music afterwards. Humfrey took them all home at

8.30.

Fri. 4th Aug. Received 2 letters from Daddy & posted him one. He expects to come on the 10th to change 1 of his men.

Mon. 7th Aug. Posted letter to Mary at Pernambuco in answer to one from her telling us that Fred had been received into the Catholic Church on March 13. 1911.Mrs. Ware called again after many months absence, wanting some food, so Maudie got her a cup of tea & we gave her some food to take away. Enclosed postcard photos to Fred & Mary of Daddy & I together, and 3/4 length of Maudie in navy serge costume.

Tues. 8th Aug. Received letter from my mother to say a Mrs. Greeze was bringing out one of my paintings from England. Posted letter to Daddy, Broomehill.

Sat. 12th Aug. Daddy returned from Gnowangerup.

Fri. 18th Aug. Daddy & I went to Queen's Hall pictures.

Mon. 21st Aug. Daddy left home for Chirrilillup & Tarbunkenup.

Sat. 26th Aug. Kitty & Jean Ross came up from Claremont to lunch with us. Mary Sloan came in unexpectedly to ask to stay while her mother went to have her teeth out. Maudie took them all to the pictures in the afternoon & gave them tea & cakes before returning home. Mrs. Sloan called for Mary (with 13 teeth gone under gas) soon after 5 o'clock.

Sun. 27th Aug. Roy Murray called to help Horace with his yacht. Stayed to dinner and tea.

Fri. 1st Sept. Daddy returned in evening from Tarbunkenup.

Wed. 6th Sept. Received letter from Mrs. Olsen refusing to wash for us any more - answered adt. in paper for another woman.

Sat. 9th Sept. Daddy, I, Phyl and Dolly went to Wellington Square to see Horace & Eric play a Lacrosse match Trinity v North Perth. Trinity won, so they play a semi-final against Y.M.C.A. next Saturday.

Mon. 11th Sept. Daddy returned to Chirrilillup & I went out to hunt for a new laundress.

Tues. 12th Sept. Went to see a Mrs. Roberts & secured her to wash for us to-morrow.

Sat. 16th Sept. My orchid painting arrived from England (intact) by the "Kyarra" at lunch time. Posted letter to Daddy at P.O. Gnowangerup. Humfrey took Phyl & Doll to the Pictures & Maudie & I went to Loton Park to see Horace & Eric play their last Lacrosse match this season, as they were beaten by Y.M.C.A.

Sun. 17th Sept. Went to 7 Mass with Leslie. Ch. of Mary's Sunday, also Hibernians. Roy & Allen came up in aftn, went out with Horace & Eric, Allen returning to tea & spend the evening. Les, Maudie & I went up to Benediction at the Monastery & found it beautifully decorated for the 40 hrs. devotion, now on, in honour of Our Lady of Dolours.

Mon. 18th Sept. Les & I went to High Mass at Monastery at 7 o'clock. Finished making the second green coat dress & bloomers for Phyl & Doll.

Tues. 19th Sept. Maudie & I went to High Mass at Monastery at 9 o'clock, followed by procession of Bl. Sac. & Benediction, closing the 40 Hours Devotion. Mrs. Stanbury walked across Hyde Park with us, it being such a glorious spring day. Posted letter to Daddy at Gnowangerup. Mrs. Roberts came to wash at 12.30.

Wed. 20th Sept. Went to Mass at St. Brigid's with Phyl & Doll for Ember Day, Humfrey on the Altar. Maudie started to make some sailor dresses for Phyl & Doll. Received a letter from my mother to express her delight at receiving our Golden Wedding presents, especially admiring enlargement of Maudie. Letter from Daddy, returning Friday.

Thurs. 21st Sept. Posted letter to my mother. Called on Mrs. Gray in aftn. to find she & her daughter had gone to call on me - took her some flowers from my garden.

Fri. 22nd Sept. Daddy came home at 11 a.m. Had lunch, then went to dentist, having broken his bottom teeth - stayed home rest of day.

Sat. 23rd Sept. Roy Murray came in aftn. to help make new mast etc. for yacht - stayed to tea & they worked on till 10 o'clock.

Sun.24th Sept. Daddy & I went to 7 Mass. Boys spent the day working at their yacht, with Roy and Allan.

Mon. 25th Sept. Daddy went to office, calling at Mrs. Gray's to tell her I would be home Fridays.

Tues. 26th Sept. Mrs. Roberts came to wash at

11.30 & I went to Boan's & bought a nickol (sic) tea-tray and china cake plate. Daddy & I went to Shaftesbury Pictures. Eric & Kitty Wells sat behind us.

Thurs. 28th Sept. Mrs. Ware called in morning, bringing me a bunch of flowers & wanting some eggs as she was an out-patient at the hospital. Also Evy Stanbury came to invite the girls up to their house next Monday evening. Daddy, Maudie & I caught the 7.30 train to Claremont & called on the Ross's.

Fri. 29th Sept. Leslie came up with Maudie & I to the Sacred Heart meeting, which he joined, & Maudie & I were moved out of St. Joseph's & put into St. Mary's Guild.

Sat. 30th Sept. Leslie, Humfrey & I went to 7 Mass; Daddy & I went to Confession in afternoon for 1st Sunday. Roy & Allan Murray came for aftn. & evening to help Horace with his yacht.

Sun. 1st Oct. Daddy & I went to 7 Mass, also to Benediction & Procession in the evening. Roy & Allan stayed all day.

Mon. 2nd Oct. Daddy left at 7.30 a.m. for

Wickepin.

Bishop Clune. Horace, Eric, Leslie, Maudie and Humfrey were confirmed, also my two Godchildren, Doris & Hilda Hedges.

I witnessed the ceremony from the choir, as our Daddy was away at Yilliminning. Over 300 were confirmed (in the middle of our mission taken by Fathers Mangan and Grogan).

Sun. 12th Nov. Daddy returned last Tuesday. We did not attend close of Mission to-night - only Les, Maudie & Humfrey.

Wed. 22nd Nov. Alan Murray called in evening, & later Miss Morrison - they all played cards in dining room. Daddy & Horace had gone to Shaftesbury Pictures as it was my washing day.

Fri. 24th Nov. Daddy & I, Les & Maudie went to Mass & Communion. Posted letter from me to Auntie Blanche &

sent her W.A. jug for her collection & a "billy" card from Daddy, a card for Grace from me & 2 from Maudie for Blanche and Mercy. Maudie sent "billy" card to Grandpa & Grandma.

Thurs. 7th December. Mrs. Hobson came to wash for 3rd time. Daddy returned from Corrigin this evening.

Fri. 8th December. I took Maudie to Dr. Stoddart for her last visit this year - finished stopping 4 teeth.

Sat. 9th December. Daddy & I went to the Zoo in the aftn. Maudie & another Child of Mary did the church Altar for the Im. Conception.

Mon. 11th December. Daddy & I went to 7 Mass + Leslie. Man came to re-calcimine our kitchen, bathroom & back verandah.

Mon. 18th December. Daddy left this evening for Yilliminning.

Fri. 22nd December. I made my Xmas mince pies.

Wed. 20th December. Received a long letter from my Mother.

Fri. 22nd December. Daddy returned for Xmas & New Year.

Sun. 24th December. All went to Mass at 7, then Horace & Eric left us to camp at Attadale for 10 days. Daddy took us all to Midnight Mass. We had our Xmas presents at breakfast before the boys went. Horace & Eric gave Daddy & I a lovely tea-service. I gave Dad a pair of slippers Horace - pair of nail scissors. Eric - whistle pipe. Les - a book "The Gladiators" Maudie - hairbrush Phyl & Dolly -purses with cords & cash boxes full of chocolates.

Daddy gave me - green glass scent bottle of lavender water & box of other scents. Maudie made me a muslin & lace tea-gown. Leslie gave me a pair of blue china vases full of chocolates. Phyl worked me a d'oyley & Doll a handkerchief. Les gave Phyl & Doll a Jap. cup & saucer each of chocolates & to Maudie, a fancy jug full of sauce. Eric gave Maudie a nice leather handbag & Horace gave her a book. Maudie gave the babies a 1/-stocking each. Eric gave each a ½ doz. fancy handkerchiefs & Horace gave them nice picture books & he gave Maudie some hemstitched handkerchiefs & 2 embroidered ones. Maudie gave Humfrey a pocket knife. I gave him a swimming costume & Eric gave a cream sweater.

Mon. 25th December. Xmas Day. Maudie, Les & I went to 7 Mass & to Communion. Les & Maudie went to 11 as well.

Tues. 26th December. As I was not well, Maudie put off her visit to Rottnest with Les, & let me stay in bed late. He started alone, but met some fellows who wanted to make up a crew for their yacht - so he obliged.

Wed. 27th December. We all went for a picnic to Como & met the boys & their yacht there. We had our 1st ride in a motor-car from S. Perth jetty to Como. Daddy soon left us & went home. We returned at dark & he had a boiling kettle for us & had tidied up the home beautifully. Thurs. 28th December. Letter from Auntie Blanche, also packet containing calendars for Daddy and the boys, a text book for me, birthday book for Maudie and brooch each for Phyl & Dolly. Mrs. Hobson could not come to wash, so I had to go up & get her grandmother to come with the 4 children. Maudie had taken our children to Claremont to lunch with the Rosses & the baths afterwards.

Fri. 29th December. Dolly's 11th birthday. Puppa, Mother & Maudie gave her a 5/6 baby doll.

Sun. 31st December. Daddy & I went to 7 Mass. We also woke at midnight & were surprised to hear so many New Year hooters going.

Mon. 1st January. New Year's Day. We all went to 7 Mass. Les went to Rottnest alone. We others stayed home quietly. Eric returned home at night.

As Mrs. Hobson took a weekly

engagement, I persuaded Mrs. Olsen to come back & wash for us - she started today. A package came from my mother containing presents for myself & the girls from Aunt Netta's belongings, that her husband was dividing round to the relations. Phyl & I went up in the aftn & did the S. H. Altar for 1st Friday.

Fri. 5th January. Daddy & I, Les & girls all went to the

S. H. meeting. I took up my 1st rosebud off Les' trees. Received letter from Mary Gerard written at sea, enclosing photos of themselves & house, outside & in. Sat. 6th January. Too hot to stir out - ther. went up to 104.6.

Sun. 7th January. S. H. Sunday - all went to 7 Mass, but Humfrey - very crowded. Daddy & I went to museum in afternoon.

Mon. 8th January. As we did not go to Mass, I went up to church after breakfast with the babies & Maudie, (who wanted to water Sister M. Magdalen's garden) to say my prayers & began a Novena to the S. H. for a blessing on Eric's 21st birthday, next Sunday. Horace, Les, Daddy, I & Maudie went for the Ch. of Mary's river excursion to-night.

Tues. 9th January. Maudie, Phyl & Doll took Chrissie Olsen with them to Claremont baths for the day, as I put off washing till Friday.

Wed. 10th January. Daddy & I went to Mass & Communion together. He left at 6.30 p.m. for South Dorakin for a 3 weeks trip. Maudie went for ½ day to Midland. Weather still hot - 92 on our verandah.

Sun. 14th January. Eric's 21st birthday -Daddy away we all went to 7 Mass together to pray for him. On returning home, Daddy & I gave him some gold sleeve links with E.R. engraved on. Horace, a set of quoits Les & Maudie, a fountain pen - Humfrey, a leather wallet, & Phyllis & Dolly, a paint box. After breakfast, he & Horace went yachting as usual. Les & I walked up to Monastery in the evening for Benediction.

Tues. 16th January. Held Eric's birthday party from

7.30 till 11.30, but so intensely hot no one came till 8, when Allan Murray arrived. Then, Katie Hansen, and after her, Kitty Wells and May Leslie, & then the 2 Stanbury's & Mary Flynn with her violin, who gave us 2 solos. Mella played "Sleigh Bells" on the piano & Kitty, 2 songs. Leslie returned early from Midland and photoed the supper table with 21 candles round the cake for postcards. Mary Flynn brought him a silver serviette ring in case; the Stanbury's, a leather wallet, & Alan Murray, also a leather wallet.

Fri. 19th January. Long letter from Daddy - wrote a letter of reconciliation to my sister.

P.C. of party to Auntie Blanche, then one to Daddy at Wickepin. May Leslie came in afternoon, stayed to dinner, and she & Maudie went to Claremont Baths in evening with Horace & Eric.

Tues. 23rd January. Letters from my mother to Maudie and me, enclosing £5 for Eric's birthday.

Wed. 24th January. Telegram from Daddy - home tomorrow.

Thurs. 25th January. Eric, Les, Maudie, Phyl & I went to 7 Mass. Daddy's train late - came home ¼ to 9.

Sun. 28th January. Maudie stood Godmother to Gerald Lewis Hamond Scott.

Mon. 29th January. Eric went for the day to Cottesloe with his latest sweetheart, Katie Hansen. Horace stayed out yachting on Sunday over the holiday. Daddy & I walked round the shops & had icecreams in the morning, & after lunch let Maudie take Phyl & Doll to Nedlands Baths.

Tues. 30th January. Washing day, so Daddy went to Melrose Gardens in the evening by himself.

Wed. 31st January. Daddy so enthusiastic over a tomboy girl he saw at the Pictures last night that he took Maudie & I to the same this evening.

Thurs. 1st February. Mother Brigid's Feast Day. Phyl & Doll took her a P.C. of Our Lady at the foot of the Cross, that Les took from my picture. Maudie & I went up and did the 2 side Altars in the morning, ready for 1st Friday & the Feast of the Purification.

Fri. 2nd February. Daddy, Maudie & I, Eric & Les, went to 7 Mass.

Sat. 3rd February. Maudie went to 7 Mass with Eric. It being Kathleen Fallon's 21st birthday, she took her an Autograph Book. After breakfast, I took Maudie to Dr. Stoddart, who re-stopped her centre front teeth. We then visited Mrs. Shine's, who took ½ doz. for 2/- of Les' P.C.'s of Our Lady, and book a white & silver Prayer Book 5/6, to give Maudie's little Godson, having for an extra 1/- "G.S." engraved on the shield that was on the cover. She took it to the Scott's this afternoon, & they were delighted with it.

Sun. 4th February. We all went to 7 Mass except Phyl & Doll who got the breakfast. Horace took Humfrey yachting, as Eric was off again to Cottesloe with Katie Hansen, it being her last day home before returning to school at Highgate Convent. She called here soon after 9 a.m., and I gave her a P.C. of Eric's 21st birthday party. Also, Maudie took 1 each to Kitty Wells, the 2 Stanbury's & Mary Flynn. Eric had to bid Katie adieu this evening.

Mon. 5th February. Daddy returned to Dorakin this morning. Eric wrote a long letter to Grannie & Grandpa to thank for the £5 note they sent for his birthday.

Tues. 6th February. Letters came from Auntie Blanche for Harry & I, Horace, Eric and Maudie. Maudie, Eric & I went to 7 Mass. Letter from Lorna Pope thanking Maudie for the pretty beaded purse she made & sent her.

Wed. 7th February. Maudie, Eric, Les & I went to 7 Mass. Posted letter & P.C. to Daddy at Wickepin.

Thurs. 8th February. Received letter, P.C., and telegram from Daddy.

Sun. 11th February. Phyl went to 11 Mass & brought back Girlie to spend the day. Les & I & Phyl took her to Benediction at the Monastery & returned her to the Stanbury's.

Mon. 12th February. Daddy returned unexpectedly at mid-day.

Tues. 13th February. Daddy & I tram'd out to Leederville terminus & walked down to Monger's Lake.

Sat. 17th February. Maudie, Bernadine Giralt, Phyl & Doll went to Como in the launch & invited the boys to tea, & all went swimming together, Eric teaching B. to dive. Horace brought them home in the yacht at 11.30 as they got becalmed.

Sun. 18th February. Daddy & I went to 9 Mass.

Fri. 23rd February. Eric & Maudie went to the "Stations of the +". Daddy & I to the Shaftsbury Pictures.

Sat. 24th February. Bernadine Giralt came to lunch, to accompany Maudie to the Carnival at Nedlands Park in the aftn. Humfrey was swimming in the chief race, but soon gave up & got in his boat. Katie Hansen called to see Eric soon after 3 & was disappointed to find him gone. Daddy gave her a long lecture on the undesirability of becoming a nun.

Sun. 25th February. Daddy & I went to Communion together at 9 Mass. Phyllis very poorly all day, getting very feverish towards evening. Humfrey 16 years old today. Daddy, Horace & I each gave him 2/6, the others lesser sums.

Mon. 26th February. Phyl a little better this morning, tho' worse during last night -had to sponge her all over with iced vinegar & water. Kept her in bed to-day. Daddy left for Yilliminning at 7.30 a.m. Humf. carried his bag to the Station & then came home & was very sick & feverish like Phyl, so he had to go to bed & let the office slide. I made him a bed in the hall, so as to mind him during the night, but both he & Phyl slept well. Maudie, Eric & I went to the Stations. Les put up electric globes in dining & drawing rooms.

Tues. 27th February. Both patients much better, thank God, so Maudie & I were able to go to 7 Mass with Eric & Leslie. Had a P.C. from my dear Daddy. I went to Boan's to get a pair of new sheets for our bed - 13/6, also some bedroom slippers for myself - 1/11, & bought Phyl a 6d. doll to dress & gave her 6d. to get some patches off Mrs. Goodall, our dressmaker. Humfrey returned to the Office middle day. Mr. Smith gave him tickets to a Charity entertainment at Loton's Park, pictures etc., to which he went this evening. Les bought 9/- worth fittings for our electric lights.

Wed. 28th February. Eric, Les & I went to 7 Mass. Phyl better, but staying home from school. Letter from Daddy. Les, Maudie & I went to the Stations at 7.30.

Thurs. 29th February. Eric, Les & I went to 7 Mass. Maudie sick. Mrs. Olsen washing. Telegram from Daddy, home tonight - arrived about 8.45. I did the S. Heart Altar in the aftn. with Phyllis, but had to miss the meeting, also Maudie.

Fri. 1st March. Eric, Les & I went to 1st Friday Mass.

Sat. 2nd March. Daddy left again by morning train for Narrogin. Maudie & I went to Confession & Rosary.

Sun. 3rd March. All went to 7 Mass. S. H. Sunday.took the girls to Procession evening. Leslie carried the Canopy.

Mon. 4th March. I went with Eric & Les to 7 Mass.

Tues. 5th March. Maudie, Eric, Les & I attended 7 Mass. After breakfast Maudie went out to see Mrs. Lethbridge & then into town to try and get a position as retoucher. Got 12/6 weekly offered at Falk Studio.

Wed. 6th March. I went with boys to 7 Mass and to Stations in the morning, afterwards calling at a house opposite to engage Mrs. Shakeshafter to do the ironing instead of Maudie. Found Daddy had unexpectedly returned when I came in.

Fri. 8th March. Daddy left for Narrogin by evening train. Maudie & I went up to the Stations.

Sat. 9th March. Maudie & I went to 7 Mass. Maudie took Phyllis & Dolly to Claremont baths. Telegram from Daddy, at Narrogin. Electric meter put on today.

Sun. 10th March. Went with boys to 7 Mass, & Maudie, Humfrey, Phyl & Doll to 9. Eric & I went up to the Monastery for Benediction - Father Grogan preached. We walked home with the Stanbury's.

Mon. 11th March. Maudie & I went to 7 Mass & Eric & Les too. Les left Webb & Webb's Studio on Saturday, and started at Falk Studio this morning, with Maudie. Had a letter from Daddy from Hordern Hotel, Narrogin. Les, Maudie, Humf, Phyl & Doll went to Passion Pictures at St. Brigid's School this evening.

Tues. 12th March. Maudie & I, Les & Eric, went to 7 Mass. Posted letter to Daddy at Yilliminning. Dolly sent P.C. of comic dog to Auntie Blanche. Maudie went to choir practice when their conductor, Mr. Murray (?) walked out offended & left them, so it broke up.

Wed. 13th March. I went to 9 Mass. Letter from Daddy -home to-morrow night for my birthday. Phyl, Eric & I went to "Stations".

Thurs. 14th March. Eric, Les & I went to 7 Mass. Daddy came at ¼ to 8, and saw our electric lights on for the 1st time.

Fri. 15th March. My 46th Birthday. Daddy took me to 7 Mass. The woman I engaged to iron failed to turn up - had left Perth, so I did it myself. Daddy sent a note - too busy to come home to lunch, so I was able to keep at the ironing. The children brought me my presents afterwards. From Daddy -St. Fran. de Sales' book "Treatise on the Love of God", and a leather handbag. Horace - "Blue Danube Waltz" and New Testament. Eric - Birthday book. Les - ½ doz. P.P.C's of Our Lady at foot of Cross. Maudie - a P.C. Album and a dainty nightdress made by herself. Humf - Cake dish. Phyl - Cup & saucer. Dolly - Cake dish & lollies.

Sat. 16th March. Maudie drew her 1st salary to-day. Daddy took me to Shaftesbury Pictures to-night, and Maudie & Holl & Eric went to spend the evening with the Murrays.

Mon. 18th March. Daddy returned to the bush.

Wed. 20th March. Mrs. Murray & her niece, Miss Swalling, came with Maudie & I to Claremont Baths, & Phyl & Doll.

Tues. 26th March. Letter from Auntie Blanche to me. Daddy returned home this evening, as he had to come as far as York.

Wed. 27th March. Daddy left this morning for Quairading. I went to 9 Mass & "Stations" in the evening.

Fri. 29th March. Went to Mass with Les & Maudie & Phyllis. School broke up to-day for Easter. Letter from Daddy. Kitty Wells spent the evening with us & Horace took her home at 11 p.m.

Sat. 30th March. Les & I went to 7 Mass.

Sun. 31st March. All went to 7 Mass except Dolly, who had to take medicine, so did not go at all - had a sick headache. Eric & Maudie went on the river trip out to sea 2 miles, as there was no Chn. of Mary's Sodality. Posted letter to Daddy at Yilliminning this evening.

Mon. 1st April. Posted Easter Card only to my mother. Posted letter each from Harry & me with Holy Card of "friendship" to Auntie Blanche. Posted Easter card to Mrs. Sloan, Fremantle. Had letter from Daddy at breakfast time.

Thurs. 4th April. Children broke up school for Easter. Daddy came home yesterday night. We spent ½ hour at the Altar of Repose together.

Fri. 5th April. Good Friday. Horace & Eric went camping after breakfast. Daddy, I, & rest of family attended 11 Mass, & Humfrey left with 3 boyfriends in the aft. to camp at Como for 10 days.

Sun. 7th April. Easter Sunday. Daddy & I went to 9, and also to evening Proc. Service.

Mon. 8th April. Maudie & girls went early to Nedlands Baths with Bernadine & Ethel Brady. Daddy & I tram'd out, & had a peep at them later, but returned early for my lie down.

Wed. 10th April. Daddy & I went to Mass this morning & to "Melrose" pictures in the evening.

Thurs. 11th April. Daddy left at 7.30 a.m. for Narrogin. Letter from my mother to Eric.

Sat. 13th April. Posted letter to my mother. Daddy came by 8.45 p.m. train.

Sun. 14th April. Daddy very poorly, so I had to go without him to 11 Mass, with Phyl & Doll. Eric interviewed Fr. O'Donnell & Rev. Mother about Katie Hansen.

Mon. 15th April. Daddy left again by 9.15 train for Boyup. Boys brought home their yacht.

Tues. 16th April. Eric, Les & I went to 7 Mass. Telegram from Daddy to say he is feeling better. Maudie home from work today, sick.

Wed. 17th April. Les & I went to 7 Mass. Telegram from Daddy - home to-day; got an unexpected motor ride 171 miles from Boyup, so caught an earlier train. Boys spent the evening at the Murray's - Maudie not strong enough to go. Eric won a nice prize book.

Thurs. 18th April. No Mass. Daddy home to-day engaged 20 more men to go up to-morrow morning with him to Quairading. Dolly sick in bed all day - feverish attack.

Fri. 19th April. Daddy left this morning. Dolly better, so I took her to Fremantle to see Mrs. Sloan & Mary. Returning, called on Mrs. Carolan, saw Molly & Mr. Carolan. They were delighted to hear we were all Catholics & offered me back the Crucifix I gave Molly when a baby, which I refused. Little letter from Daddy.

Sat. 20th April. Les & I went to Mass. Telegram from Daddy.

Sun. 21st April. All went to 7 Mass except Humfrey & Dolly, who went to 9. In Aftn. Les & I went to St. V. de Paul's general conference at Highgate Hill to gain the Plenary Ind. for Daddy. In the aftn. Dulcie came to tea with the children. Alan called to enquire from his mother after Maudie. Les, she & I went to Cathedral in the evening to hear F. O'Donnell.

Mon. 22nd April. Telegram from Daddy. Phyllis & I went to 7 Mass. Les studying Latin instead.

Tues. 23rd April. Dolly & I went to 7 Mass. Phyl in bed all day with feverish attack. Wrote a letter to my mother & caught to-day's mail. Maudie sang her 1st solo at choir to-night.

Wed. 24th April. Maudie & I went to 7 Mass. Dolly took 10/- sub. for debt. (Diocesan) to Presbytery.

Mon. 6th May. Posted letter to my mother, enclosing one to Henry, not knowing his present address.

Fri. 10th May. Daddy returned this evening from Narrogin.

Sun. 19th May. Daddy & I went to 9 Mass, and then breakfast, & then he had to go to office till 1. The children heard Father Goodman preach this evening. Maudie, Phyl & Dolly, each carried a banner, the little one's 1st time, in the May Procession, to their great delight. Daddy's man, Jack Cullane, called this evening for a billet.

Tues. 28th May. Daddy & I went to Mass at 7 a.m. Received a letter from Auntie Blanche.

Wed. 29th May. Daddy left for Boyup at 8.45. I managed to get to 9 Mass, a bit late tho'. The Murray's gave an advt. evening at their Granny's house in Milligan Street, & Maudie (who went with Horace & Eric) won the prize, a nicely bound copy of "The Vicar of Wakefield".

Thurs. 30th May. Unable to go to Mass this week, having a bad cold, but made up the Sacred Heart Altar with Phyllis, this evening, and we all attended the meeting this evening & heard Father Linch (?) preach a beautiful sermon on "Woe unto you Chorazin and Bethsaida, for if the wonderful works which have been done in you had been done in Tyre & Sidon, they had repented long ago in dust & ashes", impressing upon us to realize & benefit by the many blessings & graces conferred on us Catholics.

Sat. 1st June. Daddy returned 10.15 to-night. I went to Confession for S.H. Sunday this aftn. Phyllis & Dorothy went to Mrs. Lethbridges this afternoon and took Eileen a little doll.

Sun. 2nd June. Daddy & I & girls, with Les & Humfrey, went to 7 Mass - 9 or 10 tiny girls made their 1st Communion. Then Daddy had to work at his office till 1 o'clock - home rest of day. Boys made a new & large bird cage & put our parrots in it.

Mon. 3rd June. Bank Holiday. Daddy left for Narrogin

7.35. I took Maudie, Phyl & Doll to the Zoo, returning home at 5. Horace & Eric stayed home & tidied up the place for us. In the evening Eric, Les & Humfrey went to the pictures & I wrote to Mary Gerard.

Tues. 4th June. Les & I went to 7 Mass, then put off washing as to-day is another holiday. Posted letter to Mary G., enclosing Leslie's P.C. of Our Lady.

Fri. 14th June. Les & I at Mass. Daddy came home.

Sat. 15th June. Daddy & I went to Spencer's Pictures this evening.

Mon. 17th June. Daddy left 7.30 this morning for Brookton.

Tues. 18th June. Horace's birthday. He had a bad cold, so could not come to Mass for it, with Les, Maudie, Phyllis & me. We then gave him a pair of gold links engraved with his initials from the family combined, & some chocolates from Phyl & Dolly.

Wed. 19th June. Not feeling well myself - missed Mass to-day, and kept Phyllis home from school. Letter from my Daddy.

Thurs. 20th June. Went to Mass with Les. Posted letter to Daddy at Brookton. Went up town to buy his presents.

Fri. 21st June. Maudie, Les & I went to Mass for Daddy's birthday to-day. Received another letter saying home to-night at ¼ to 8. Lit fires in both rooms & had nice little supper with his presents ready for him - from Horace & me, a dining room clock. Phyl & Dolly - 2 vases for either side of clock. Maudie & Humfrey - nail scissors.

Sun. 23rd June. Daddy & I went to 7 Mass. His cold being still very heavy after 2 or 3 weeks, we stayed by fire rest of day. Phyl & Doll went to Doris Hedges' birthday tea this evening.

Mon. 24th June. Bank Holiday - only for Horace & Humfrey. Daddy left for Boyup 7.30. Horace went to Fremantle for the day. Humfrey biked to the hills & back by Armadale, & I went to Economic to be fitted for my cream silver wedding dress. Doris Hedges - 17 today (my Godchild). We invited her to spend the evening with us & her sister Hilda & Dulcie Scott. I gave her a Catholic New Testament with a pretty birthday bookmark.

Tues. 25th June. Les & I went to Mass. Received a letter from Henry from 2 Vanbrugh Terrace, telling of

my dear Father's death, a month ago to-day, & enclosing Certificate of Death. Gave 5/- to Les to see Father Fagan about a Mass for him. He will offer one for our intention Thurs. morning. I went up to church in aftn. to say some special prayers for souls in Purgatory.

Wed. 26th June. Went to 9 Mass & Communion, which I offered on my poor Father's behalf. Letter came from my dear Daddy.

Thurs. 27th June. Les, Maudie, Humfrey, Phyllis, Dolly & I went to my Father's Mass this morning. Wrote a letter to my mother this evening.

Fri. 28th June. Les & I at 7 Mass. Posted letter to my mother. Letter from Daddy at breakfast, coming by ¼ to 2 train, which I met & waited for him ½ an hour, but hearing it would be an hour late, came home & kept lunch till 3 o'clock.

Sat. 29th June. Daddy applied to-day for another billet at £600 a year, still under Governmt.

Sun. 30th June. Daddy & I at 9 Mass. Maudie wrote letter to Grandma.

Mon. 1st July. Daddy left 7.30 for Brookton. At 11.30 I went to Economic for last fitting of my silver-wedding dress. Then got home at 1 o'clock to find Mrs. Sloan with the new baby, John Pat., & Mary, waiting on the verandah, so they stayed to lunch, leaving 3.30.

Tues. 2nd July. Les & I at Mass again. Wrote & posted little letter to Daddy, enclosing cig. papers. Received a letter from my mother telling all about my poor Father's death. Kept Dolly home to-day, and started on their cream frocks for the 30th. Posted another letter to Dad & P.C. from Dolly to Auntie Blanche.

Thurs. 4th July. Les & I at Mass. Pouring wet day. Made up S. H. Altar in afternoon.

Fri. 26th July. Daddy returned for Silver Wedding, holiday till next Wednesday morning.

Sat. 27th July. My Wedding Cake arrived.

Sun. 28th July. I went to 7 Mass with Les & girls. Daddy in bed sick.

Mon. 29th July. Daddy better, came up to Confession with me in afternoon ready for to-morrow, & waited while Phyl & I finished the Sacred Heart Altar. Put on 2 dark red fairy lamps in commemoration of the S.W.

Tues. 30th July. Our Silver Wedding Day. The whole family came to Mass and Communion, kneeling together at the rails, & immediately on our return home, Horace brought me the daily paper, shewing me, the advt. of the occasion, he had had inserted by all the children. Then breakfast, & then I opened all my presents, during which Doris & Hilda Hedges came in with another present from next door, & stayed to see the fun.

After the presents, the boys went to work, but Maudie got the day off to decorate up the dining room. The table was partly finished when Les came home at noon and photoed it. But it was not so good as when finished at 3 o'clock, when Mrs. Hedges came in to inspect, and admired Maudie's blue ribbons twisted with asps. fern from the centre electric light to the 4 corners of the table, tied with bunch of jonquils & fern. At 5.15 I dressed in all my new bridal array, wearing 1 red rose Horace brought, & we sat down to the Wedding Breakfast an hour later, at which, by the uproar, all enjoyed themselves immensely.

Wed. 31st July. Daddy left this morning for Yilliminning. After breakfast, fetched Mrs. Campbell down to taste my W. cake & see all my presents. Then, Mrs. Sloan, Mary & baby boy, came to lunch from Fremantle. Sent S.M. Claver a Wedding Box of cake another to Mother Aquin.

Thurs. 1st August. Washing day. Les & I at Mass. Packed my boxes of W. cake this evening.

Sat. 3rd August. At ¼ past 1 Daddy & I, with Phyl & Dolly, trammed to Hay St. & met the rest of the family at Ruskin's Studio to have our S. Wedding group taken.

Sun. 4th August. Daddy & I & family at 9 Mass. Eric took Maudie, Phyl & Doll for a row after breakfast to Crawley. Mary Sloan came in afternoon for Les to photo in her 1st Com. clothes. He then took Daddy alone, & then one of me in my Wed. dress, fur & hat, and 2 of Maudie alone. It then came on to pour with rain, so children had to miss Procession Sunday in the evening. Only Les went to carry the canopy.

Tues. 6th August. Daddy left for Nunnagin at 6.40 a.m. Maudie applied for position advertised at Ruskins, but an older hand wanted. Met her at 5 o'clock, & we went together to buy a new wrapper Daddy wanted for me. Bought one opp. Foy's for 1 guinea.

Wed. 7th August. Les & I went to 7 Mass. Dolly & I went to town in afternoon to buy her some school fancy work. Postcard from Daddy.

Thurs. 8th August. Missed Mass thro' my cold. Wrote letter to Daddy at Doodlakine.

Mon. 12th August. Daddy left this morning. I went to Sandover's & bought a round card table.

Tues. 13th August. Posted long letters to Auntie Blanch from Daddy and myself, enclosing Dad's birthday poetry to me, for her to read. Posted Mary's photo proofs to Mrs. Sloan.

Thurs. 15th August. Les & I at Mass. We invited Mrs. Murray, Barbara, Roy & Alan, to spend the evening, and Hilda & Doris Hedges also came. Maudie laid a pretty supper for 10 o'clock, and we did not break up the party till 12.15.

Fri. 16th August. Les went to Mass alone. Daddy returned 8.30 p.m.

Sun. 18th August. Daddy & I at 9 Mass. After breakfast we walked with Phyl & Doll to Hyde Park.

Wed. 21st August. Les, Phyl & I at Mass. Took S.M. Claver some flowers, hearing she had a bad finger. She told me little Nellie Dunn had been very ill, so went on to see her - had had pneumonia & was still in bed, & father 5 months in hospital. Had postcard from Daddy.

Thurs. 22nd August. Les, Phyl & I at Mass. Took Nellie some eggs afterwards & promised to send up Phyllis after school to play "Snakes & Ladders" with her. Wrote to my Daddy at Doodlakine - received letter from him this afternoon.

Fri. 23rd August. Went to Mass with Les. Then to town after breakfast to buy him a prayer book for his birthday at Shine's. Telegram from Daddy, home to-night 10.30.

Sat. 24th August. Les 20 to-day. He took his new prayer book to Mass. Phyl & Doll bought him a bag of chocolates. This aftn. they took their new race game to play with Nellie.

Sun. 25th August. Daddy, the girls & I went only to 11 Mass. In aftn. the boys brought Roy home to tea. Only Les & Maudie went to church.

Mon. 26th August. Daddy & I went to Communion at 7 Mass instead of yesterday. He then left at ¼ to 9 for Holyoake etc. Wrote a long letter to my mother. Letter from Mrs. Sloan ordering 1 doz. P.C.'s of Mary.

Tues. 27th August. Les and I at Mass. At breakfast came a letter-card from Daddy from Pinjarra on his way to Holyoake. Phyllis home all day with heavy cold. Jessie Gray came to spend the aftn. with her. Letter from my mother. Les brought home our "Silver Wedding" photos this evening.

Wed. 28th August. Les and I at 7 Mass. Phyl home still, but cold better. Barbara Swalling came home to dinner with Maudie & to have a musical evening. Unexpected telegram from Daddy, home tonight, arriving after dinner whilst we were all singing.

Thurs. 29th August. Daddy home all day, left by night train for Brookton camp. Dolly & I made up the S.H. Altar this afternoon, and we attended the meeting at night.

Fri. 30th August. Les and I at Mass.

Sat. 31st August. Les came with me to 7 Mass & I stayed on for a second, & then the "Stations of the Cross" for my absent Daddy. Went to Confession to Father Fagan. Daddy returned unexpectedly this evening.

Sun. 1st September. I went to 9 Mass with Les. Daddy went up to office, returning about 10 & remained in bed rest of day. I went with Les & girls to Evening Procession.

Mon. 2nd September. Les & I went to 7 Mass. Daddy finished up at office to-day & returned early. Both tired, so went to bed early.

Tues. 3rd September. Daddy left again for Brookton

7.30. Sent Humfrey to postpone washing. I went back to bed after breakfast & slept till 12.10. Got lunch slept again till nearly 4. Got dinner, and then went to bed for good.

Wed. 4th September. Feeling better this morning, so went to Mass with Les & Phyl. Letter Card from Daddy. Business letter from Henry about Grandpa's will, enclosing another for me to sign. Took one of our

S.W. photos up to be framed for Sister M. Claver's Feast Day.

Thurs. 5th September. Les, Phyl & Ted at 7 Mass. Mrs. Olsen came to wash. Posted letter to Daddy at Brookton, also a new soft shirt to him. Had a nice letter from him today. Phyl & Doll gave S.M. Claver a nice bunch of flowers as they kept her Feast to-day instead of Sunday, as they go into retreat to-night. The children broke up this aftn. for 10 days holiday.

Fri. 6th September. Les, Phyl & I at Mass. A very wet day. Mrs. Gray came to iron, and Kitty Wells called in aftn. for contributions to their ball supper, so promised to make her a bowl of jelly. Vera Howard & Ivan Campbell came to play with Phyllis & Dollie till 6 o'clock.

Sat. 7th September. Les & I at Mass. Telegram at lunch from Daddy - home to-night. We had tickets for Waif's Home Annual Excursion for Maudie, I & 2 children, so went, & met Mrs. Harry & Addie Harry there. We saw all over the Home, had aftn. tea & picked wild flowers, returning to the station. Phyl, Dollie & Maudie stayed with the Excursion train in Mrs. Harry's care, and I got in Daddy's train from Albany, which came first, but could not find him, & did not think to ask the guard, so hurried on home directly we stopped at Perth. Otherwise had a most enjoyable trip.

Sun. 8th September Daddy & I went to 11 Mass and heard Father Maugan preach his last sermon in St. Brigid's as he is returning to Sydney.

Mon. 9th September Daddy & I went up early to Mass & found Fr. Maugan kneeling in the church, so Dad went to Conf. to him & we both went to Communion instead of yesterday. Kitty Wells called for the jelly I promised for their ball to-night. Father Maugan called this afternoon to say goodbye to us. Humfrey started his fortnight's holiday to-day.

Tues. 10th September Daddy left at 6.30 for Doodlakine so Les & I went to Mass. Phyl & I took some lilies & kangaroo paws up to the church & found the girls doing

the S.H. Altar. Then we took a letter & our S.W. photo, framed, round to the Convent for S.M. Claver's Feast Day, last Sunday. They are in retreat till next Sunday. Both our dry wells emptied to-night -boys out watching proceedings.

Wed. 11th September Les & I at Mass. Posted little letter to Mrs. Sloan with her doz. postcards Les took of Mary in 1st. Com. veil. Kitty returned my jelly basin. Phyl & Dollie went to Mrs. Lethbridge's this morning, found Eileen sick, but got a photo of her & this aftn have gone to Mrs. Campbell's to play with Ivan. Letter-card from Dad.

Thurs. 12th September Les and I at Mass. Phyl trammed to North Perth to fetch Girlie from the Stanbury's to spend the day. After lunch & my hour's rest, I took her with Phyl & Dolly by tram to Leederville, and walked out the Wanneroo Rd, & across the bush back to tram, picking wild flowers. After dinner, Maudie & I took her home & had a chat with Mrs. Stanbury, Evy & Mella.

Fri. 13th September Les & I at Mass. Posted letter to Daddy at Doodlakine, & letter to Henry, Aldershot.

Sat. 14th September Missed Mass. Daddy returned this evening.

Wed. 18th September Daddy & I at Mass & Communion. He then left at 9.15.

Thurs.19th September Les & I at Mass. Barbara came to dinner & Roy & Alan afterwards. Had music & cards till 12.15.

Sat. 21st September Les & I at Mass, being Ember Day. Les took Maudie to social & dance with Barbara & Alan. Daddy returned at 10 o'clock.

Sun. 22nd September Daddy, Les & I went to 7 Mass.

Mon. 23rd September Daddy left for Brookton 7.30. I stayed in bed till 3 p.m. Got up & took S.W. photos to post to Grandma, Uncle Henry, Auntie Blanche & Mary Gerard. Rang up Dr. Meade who called soon after 5 & prescribed for me. Wrote a birthday letter to my mother who will be 78 next month.

Tues. 24th September Sent Letter-card to Fred & Mary Gerard. Received card from Daddy. Les took his 1st dancing lesson.

Wed. 25th September Went to Communion at 9 Mass. Sent Letter-card to Auntie Blanche and posted letter to Daddy at Brookton.

Thurs. 26th September At 7 Mass with Les again. Dolly in bed with feverish attack and sore throat. Letter from my Daddy.

Fri. 27th September Les & I at Mass. Dolly still bad kept her in bed all day. Maudie & I visited Dr. Meade made ap. next Wednesday.

Sat. 28th September Les & I at Mass. Dolly better & up in her room a little while. Daddy home late - 11 o'clock. Eric met him.

Sun. 29th September Horace & I at 9 Mass. Daddy stayed in bed, too knocked up from travelling & gout.

Mon. 30th September Daddy & I at Mass instead of yesterday. Dolly better.

Tues. 1st October Daddy left home again. Dolly staying home from school this week.

Wed. 2nd October Les & I at Mass. Went to Dr. Meade's rooms at 11 a.m. for examination, & found nothing wrong but muscular weakness. Mother Aquin and S. Mary Claver came to visit us this afternoon.

Thurs. 3rd October Les & I at Mass; also Eric & Maudie, Les & I attended S.H. meeting in evening. Daddy home 10.30.

Sat. 5th October Mr. McMasters died suddenly at 3.30 this morning. Daddy and I at Confession together this evening. Then visited Mrs. Shine - bought another red light.

Sun. 6th October Dad & I at 7 Mass for S.H. Rep. Saw poor Mrs. McM. coming out - his funeral this aftn. Also the Procession for Rosary Sunday - very wet day, so only Maudie went with Ch. of Mary - the rain held off just for that time.

Mon. 7th October Dad left this morning. Sent our cards of sympathy to Mrs. McM.

Wed. 9th October Show Day. Les and I at Mass. Horace & Humfrey went to show & pictures in the evening. Daddy's friend, Miss Elsie Leah called this afternoon. Maudie had a ½ holiday & was doing pastel work. We invited her to spend an evening with us next week. Mela Stanbury brought Girlie down this evening to see if we could take her to Show to-morrow, so we kept her to sleep here with Phyl & Dolly.

Thurs.10th October Les and I at Mass. A lady asked us to offer our Masses for a happy death for her, as she was dying of cancer. After breakfast, I took the 3 little ones to Claremont with our lunch. Gave them a ride on the merry-go-round. Met Mary Sloan, then Mrs. Smith & her children & saw Nellie Dunn there too. Came home about 5.30. Girlie slept here.

Fri. 11th October Les & I at Mass. Gave the girls a half-holiday, then packed up Girlie's things & saw them off in afternoon. Daddy home 7.30.

Thurs. 17th October Les and I at Mass. Had a musical evening 7.30 till 11.30. Elsie Leah, Addie Harry, Evy & Mela Stanbury and Doris Hedges came.

Fri. 18th October All overslept & missed Mass. Had a nice love-letter from Daddy - coming home to-morrow morning before noon. Doris Ashby called for Altar money.

Sat. 19th October All missed Mass again. No Daddy came this morning. Eric took Maudie to the Charities' Carnival with the Misses Anderson, & afterwards to their house for the evening, not returning till 12.30, to find still no Daddy turned up and no telegram either. Nice fire & coffee waiting.

Fri. 1st November Daddy returned this evening to take his annual fortnight's holiday.

Sun. 10th November All went to 7 Mass. Eric brought his fiancee, Isabel Anderson, to be introduced to us. They stayed to aftn tea. Les photoed Doris Hedges again & got an order for 3 dozen of her & Hilda.

Fri. 15th November Daddy, Les & I went to 7 Mass. Kept Phyl & Doll from school on a/c a child attending with hooping (sic) cough, which Daddy & I saw Rev. Mother about yesterday, & so we took them with us to King's Park, tramming both ways. Les & Maudie went to Vic's Pictures.

Sat. 16th November At mid-day a lorry came for Horace's yacht, which he & Roy Murray finished painting up last night, & they launched her to-day for the season. Maudie & girls called for Bernadine & went to Claremont Baths in aftn. Daddy & I went round the town after 6 o'clock & had ice creams.

Sun. 17th November Daddy & I went to 11 Mass. Maudie had to come out at 7 & went back to bed. Horace gone yachting for 1st time this season with Roy & friends. Eric off to his young lady's place.

Mon. 18th November Daddy & I went to 7 Mass, and Les. His fortnight being over he returned to office & was too busy to return to lunch. Maudie starts hours ½ an hour longer to-day. Visited Mrs. Locke.

Tues. 19th November Daddy left 6.30 this morning for Wongan Hills. Phyl & I hurried up to Mass for his safe journey. The children returned to school again. Started Novena to S.H. for Mrs. Locke's mother.

Wed. 20th November Dolly & I went to 7 Mass. Letter from Barbara; she & Roy cannot come Thursday evening. Humfrey took a note round this evening, inviting Jim Fallon, but he had a previous engagement. Letter-card from my Daddy. Letter from my Mother telling Freddie Knight had left for N.S.W. in "Orama", also letter from Henry.

Thurs. 21st November Feast of Presentation. Maudie, Les, Phyl, Doll & I all went to Communion at 7 Mass. After breakfast went to town for cakes & fruit, leaving some sherry jelly on the way for Mrs. Cahill. Kitty Wells, Bernadine Giralt, Oswald McAdams & Isabel Anderson & Elsie Leah came for a musical evening & a game called the "floral wedding". Prize silver pencil booby do. bag of peanuts. Isabel came at 5.15 & stayed to dinner - she won the pencil.

Fri. 22nd November Les and I at 7 Mass. Paid a visit to old Mrs. Campbell, who sprained her ankle a fortnight ago & has to lie up.

Sat. 23rd November Les & I both overslept & missed Mass. Lovely long letter from Daddy, Wongan Hills. Went to Rosary with Phyllis.

Sun. 24th November Went to 7 Mass with Maudie & Dolly, and all except Horace & Eric, went up to Highgate evening Mission to hear Father Treacy.

Mon. 25th November Unable to go to Mass. Had an attack of colic in the night. Maudie got me some castor oil at 2.30 which soon made me better. Phyllis went for me to post my letter to Grandma containing a needle-book and letter from Maudie with holy Xmas Card. Also letters to Auntie Blanche from Maudie, with "Holy Family" card, and mine, telling I am posting her an Australian hat-pin & box.

Tues. 26th November Still poorly with bad throat, so did not go to Mass. Maudie took a holiday & we got the house ready & lunch

Thurs. 12th December .....enquire after Mr. Olsen. Mrs. O. afraid he will not live till Xmas. Mrs. Gray came to iron and offered to take home and bath a tabby kitten Horace had given him last evening, full of fleas, then Maudie rubbed it well with insectibane. Les took a flashlight photo of Maudie in the drawing room this evening, while Phyllis was dressing 3 small dolls for the nun's Xmas tree.

Fri. 13th December Les and I at Mass - terribly hot.

Sat. 14th December Les and I at Mass -still hot. Letter from Daddy - home to-night. Elsie Leah came to tea at

6.30 when Maudie & girls returned from baths. Horace saw her home at 9.30. Daddy came to supper at 10.30.

Sun. 15th December Dad very tired. I went to 7 Mass, but had to come out -heat so trying. Daddy left us at

3.30 in afternoon, and feeling knocked up, I went to bed for good.

Mon. 16th December Feeling better - but weather very trying. Les and I went to Mass. Started Novena for my darling Daddy. Had telegram about 9 o'clock that he had lost his train and got only as far as Midland. Hunted round after dinner to find a new washer - successful, after visiting both Mrs. Scott & Mrs. Hedges.

Wed. 18th December Les and I at Mass. Mrs. Wocliffe came to wash and proved too slow, also she demanded 6/-. Telegram from my Daddy, W. Hills, home Monday. Maudie & Les went to C.Y.M's motor launch trip. Granny sent Maudie a book & tiny calendar.

Thurs. 19th December Phyl & Doll start their Xmas holidays. Did not go to Mass -feeling the hot weather too exhausting, but Les went. Katie Hansen called in afternoon to say goodbye, as she was going into retreat to-night and entering the S.H. Convent on Sunday. Calendar for 1913 from my mother. Went to bed with Phyl & Doll.

Fri. 20th December Got up at 5 a.m. to iron my coat & skirt for Mass - then went to 7 with Les. Maudie & I went round the shops this evening - buying Xmas presents.

Sat. 21st December Mass with Les. Mr. McAdam called at breakfast time to tell Maudie the choir was invited to inspect Parliament House this aftn, so she went at 2.30 & they were entertained to aftn. tea. Telegram from my Daddy, home Tuesday.

Sun. 22nd December Horace, Maudie, Les & I at 7 Mass. Les took Maudie to Rottnest; neither were sick & enjoyed it greatly. I took Phyl & Doll up to do the S.H. Altar after my lie down (as it had been left dead), whilst I went round to the Convent to see S.M. Claver, but just missed her by 10 minutes. Had a chat with S.M. Aloysius. My sister had gone to see Eileen Keating who was dying (in consumption). Too tired to go to church this evening with the others, so tied up our Xmas presents in the dining room instead.

Mon. 23rd December Dolly & I at Mass. Les & Maudie too sunburnt & tired after their trip. Then I went round to Mrs. Olsen to see about the washing - but Mr.

O. still lying almost unconscious, so cannot be left. Phyl & Doll went to Convent with Xmas cards for Jessie, Marion and Sister M. Claver. They also left one from me at Doris Ashby's, & then went to town to do my shopping while I spring cleaned for Xmas. Made 40 mince pies this morning.

Tues. 24th December Les and I at Mass. Posted cards to Mother Aquin, Mrs. Stanbury, Doris & Hilda Hedges, Mary Flynn, from Phyl & Dollie. Daddy returned from Wongan Hills to-night, so we could not attend Midnight Mass with Les & girls.

Wed. 25th December All at Mass at 7 o'clock. Came home to breakfast & opened our presents. I gave slippers to Daddy, & he & I gave 2 Pewter Candlesticks to Horace. Shaving Brush & Powder Box to Eric New Testament & Shaving Mug to Leslie Needlecase to Maudie Wallet to Humfrey Drum & needlecase to Phyllis Trumpet & needlecase to Dolly. Horace gave Daddy & I a handsome pair of nut crackers & Maudie a nice leather hand-bag & stocking each to Phyl & Doll, & also 1/- to latter. Eric gave me a white satin sachet with ½ doz. handkerchiefs, to Maudie, green plush box with

handkerchief, to Phyllis, mauve silk hand-bag & handkerchiefs, & pink silk one with same to Dolly. Leslie pretty sweet dish full of chocolates to mother, Jug & basin of chocolates to Maudie, & Jap. cup & saucer of chocs. each to Phyl & Dolly. Maudie to Daddy - miniature silver frame with bust head of Leslie, to me, pink & white glass centre piece for table & Rosary case, to Horace, a silver pencil case, to Eric, a shaving mug, to Leslie a Rosary case & trip to Rottnest, to Humfrey a silk tie, & to Phyllis and Dollie, a spade each. Humfrey to Daddy & I, two silver jam spoons, & sweets to Phyl & Dollie. Phyllis & Dolly gave Maudie, Humfrey, Les, me & themselves, boxes of fancy lollies. After breakfast of cold ham, Eric departed to his Isabel, who sent me a pretty glass jam dish. Horace to his camping party, Maudie with two of the Scott's, & Phyl & Dolly to Mill Point for the day, leaving only Daddy, Leslie, Humfrey & me to Xmas dinner off the two ducks, sent as usual by Mr. Shulstad. After which, Humfrey also left for camping a fortnight with some boys at Como. Eileen Keating, aged 17, died to-day. Thunderstorm to-night.

Thurs. 26th December Daddy, Les & I at Mass. Maudie with two of the other Scotts & Phyl & Dolly went by launch to Como for the day to see how Humfrey got thro' the storm last night. Had tea at his tent & got home at dark. Mrs. Olsen sent round that her husband died this morning. Mother Aquin & Sister M. Claver called this afternoon.

Sun. 29th December Daddy & I went round to see Mrs. Olsen after our walk & found her too poorly to come yet & wash, so looked round for someone else & got a Mrs. Surridge to come to-morrow.

Wed. 1st January All home went to Mass. Maudie, Bernadine & her boy & Phyl & Doll went to Nedlands Baths for the day - blocked with people, so they could not get home till nearly 10 o'clock.

Thurs. 2nd January Daddy left this morning for Wongan Hills. Phyl & Doll did my Sacred Heart Altar & I went to meeting at night.

Fri. 3rd January Les & I with 3 girls went for 1st Friday Mass.

Sun. 5th January Went to 7 Mass for S. Heart Communion. At 4 p.m. took Maudie, Phyl & Doll to Cathedral to visit the Crib. Went to Procession Sunday evening. Finished writing our letters to Blanche.

Mon. 6th January Les & I at Mass. Called at Mrs. Campbell's after posting letters to Auntie Blanche from Les, Maudie & me, then to Mrs. Olsen, but only saw her old mother, who told me she was ready to come back and wash for us.

Wed. 8th January Only Les went to Mass. Daddy returned to-day for his long service leave, at 8.15 p.m.

Sat. 11th January Maudie, Bernie & Phyl & Doll went to Claremont baths this afternoon.

Fri. 7th February Daddy, Eric, Les, Humfrey & I at Mass for 1st Friday. Dad & I went round the shops after breakfast. He bought me a new pair tan shoes 6/11, a small white chip hat & ribbons to trim, to bike in, and Dolly a pair of tan shoes 6/11.

Sat. 8th February Only Les at Mass. Eric did not come home to-night - slept at his girl's place. Maudie, Phyl & Doll went to Claremont baths with Bernie.

Sun. 9th February All went to 7 Mass. After breakfast Leslie filled in the square in front of our W door with bricks & wood blocks & fixed up the sprinkling for my square bed.

Mon. 10th February Daddy, Les & I at Mass, after taking my 1st lesson (on the bike Daddy bought me) in Palmerston Street. 10 minutes was enough. Made Dorothy's green cotton dress. Letter from Mrs. Sloan.

Tues. 11th February Daddy, Les & I at Mass after my 2nd bike lesson - ¼ hour this time, rode 30 yards alone.

Wed. 12th February Daddy, Les & I at Mass after my 3rd bike lesson in Russell Square. Rode across the grass 100 yds alone. Les left work at "Ruskins" for good.

Thurs. 13th February Les and I at Mass alone, after another lesson on the bike with Daddy. Rode from side gate of Russell Square, round the corner to Mrs. Campbell's alone. Les's friend, Bernard McGrade came to dinner with us all & I've invited Eric also, as a last family gathering. Les fenced in my little garden with wire to keep off the cats.

Fri. 14th February Daddy came to Mass with us and let me go to Communion with Les. Biked up and down Aberdeen St., with Daddy, both morning & evening.

Sat. 15th February Only Les went to Mass. Later I biked again before breakfast & at evening, only between church & home. Maudie & Bernie took Phyl & Doll to Fremantle baths in afternoon.

Sun. 16th February Horace & girls went to seven Mass with Leslie, who waited & came again with Daddy & me to Communion at 9. He also went with his friend, Bernard, to 11 Mass. Daddy photoed me with my bike by the mulberry tree. Les & Maudie went to evening church together, & Humfrey.

Mon. 17th February Daddy took me to Mass at 7 & let me go to Communion with Leslie after our 6 o'clock biking. I rode half up Palmerston Street, as well as Aberdeen St. this morning & am much improved. After breakfast, Daddy & I went round the town buying Maudie's birthday presents. After a short lie down in aftn, Daddy went out on his bike. Came in to dinner at 6.10, then to bed.

Tues. 18th February The whole family of us went to 7 Mass for Leslie, as he leaves us to-day for the S.H. College in Sydney. Also, dear Maudie is 19 to-day. gave her a S.H. prayer book - Daddy, a New Testament. Horace - a pair of scissors, Phyllis - a box of notepaper, & Dolly - 2 hatpin guards. Miss Millard gave her a cut glass & silver mounted scent bottle, Evy Stanbury, a lace collar & Kathleen Fallon, a story book. We lunched at 12 & Les caught the 1 p.m. train to Fremantle, & Daddy, Maudie, Horace & I, the ½ past. Found Mrs. Sloan standing at wharf entrance to catch Les, so told her to go on board & find him. Bernard & his mother came down by our train & he introduced us, in their cabin, then we looked over the 1st & 2nd part of the boat (the "Otranto"). Eric & Humfrey came on later, & then Father Fagan, to say goodbye to both boys. We all had to clear off soon after 4, tho' the boat was not fairly away from the wharf till 5 o'clock, when we trained back to Perth, catching a last glimpse of her just before Osborne Station, in the Gage Roads.

Wed. 19th February Missed Mass - all too tired.

Fri. 21st February Daddy, Eric & I at Mass. Wired to Les at Adelaide on the "Otranto".

Sat. 22nd February In aftn Maudie & I went to Mrs. Campbell's, who has offered us her bike. She asked for photo of Les, so promised her one, & also of Maudie as she was giving her, her bike. Humfrey fetched it home at tea-time, & Daddy is going to get it done up for the girls.

Sun. 23rd February Daddy, Maudie & I went to 7 Mass together, also Horace. Eric did not come home last night, staying at his fiancee's. Humfrey & children went to 9. After breakfast I went my longest ride with Daddy

- to East Perth & back. Wrote to Leslie at Douglas Park, Sydney, enclosing photo of me taken with my bike by Daddy, also 1 of Monastery. Went for another ride at tea time, but had a spill over a stone.

Mon. 24th February Missed Mass. Knee very bruised. Tried riding again after breakfast, but came home, too shaky. Daddy amusing himself to-day with camera, getting a telephoto lens on trial.

Tues. 25th February Daddy & I at Mass after a bicycle ride round East Perth. Daddy gave me 10/-.

Wed. 26th February No Mass. Went for ride on our bike at ¼ to 7. Bought Phyllis a pair of tan lace up shoes 6/-.

Thurs. 27th February No Mass. I went up to do the

S.H. Altar at 2.30 & we all attended in the evening. Had a telegram from Leslie just after breakfast, to tell of his safe arrival in Sydney.

Fri. 28th February Maudie & I at Mass. I biked up to see Mrs. O'Donnell in the aftn, as she had just returned home after having had her leg off 5 weeks ago at the hospital. Maudie & I went up to the shops this evening & I bought a green felt hat for biking 6/9.

Sat. 1st March I biked up to Mass alone. Maudie & girls went to Claremont, Daddy & I a good long bike ride. Posted letter to Mary Gerard with photo of Les & Maudie taken together.

Sun. 2nd March Maudie & I sat in our S.H. Guild at 7 Mass. After breakfast she rode my bike out to Subiaco to see Isabel & Eric. Horace & Roy Murray bought a new yacht - 25 ft. last week.

Thurs. 6th March I biked to 7 Mass. After breakfast, being galey, we walked round the town. Posted little note & ribbons & cord to make scapulars with, to Mother Aquin, Leederville, for her Feast Day tomorrow. Maudie & I took Mrs. Campbell a framed photo of bust heads of her & Leslie, in return for the bicycle she gave the girls.

Fri. 7th March Maudie, Eric & I went to Mass for 1st Friday. Invitation from Mrs. Murray for Maudie & boys on the 15th.

Sat. 8th March Daddy & I biked out the Wanneroo Road at 5.45 a.m. Humfrey brought Mrs. Campbell's bike back from the shop mid-day, done up ready for Maudie, Phyl & Dolly. Maudie & I at Confession to-night. Posted letter to Mrs. McGrade.

Sun. 9th March. Daddy & I went to Communion at 7 Mass, & after breakfast a ride (he, I & Dolly) till 10 o'clock, when Maudie & Phyllis rode out to Isabel's.

Mon. 10th March Daddy & I rose at 5 o'clock & went for ride, then to Mass & another ride round North Perth, home thro' Leederville, after breakfast. Posted letter to Grandma from Maudie, enclosing photo of her & Les taken together before his departure. Also letters to Leslie from Puppa, Maudie & myself, enclosing P.C. of St. Brigid's by Daddy.

Tues. 11th March Missed Mass, too tired to get up. Maudie had letter from Elsie Leah.

Wed. 12th March Long ride, then Daddy & I at 7 Mass. Another ride with Maudie in evening, and Daddy. Eric stayed home this evening & made a cushion cover for his glory-box.

Thurs. 13th March. Missed Mass to go Saturday instead. Biked from 7 till 8, but not again to-day - too tired out.

Fri. 14th March Daddy & I at 7 Mass "Sorrows of Our Lady". Maudie & I at Stations in evening - went to Confession to Fr. Fagan for my birthday.

After breakfast, Daddy & I went to try riding in King's Park, but found it too hilly. Miss Maher took Phyl & Dolly to St. Patrick's sports. Had my 1st letter from Leslie since he arrived at St. Mary's Towers.

Tues. 18th March Daddy & I at 7 Mass. This morning he photoed St. Brigid's again.

Wed. 19th March Daddy & I at 7 Mass. Phyllis took up flowers from Horace, Eric, Maudie & me, also candles for the Altar of Repose & fairy lights for our red lamps.

Thurs. 20th March Daddy, 3 girls & me at 7 Mass & Communion. Dad also took me for ½ hour in evening. Letter from Mrs. Smith, Fremantle.

Fri. 21st March. Good Friday. Horace paid a morning visit to the Altar of Repose before going on building his new yacht at S. Perth. We others went to the 11 service.

Sat. 22nd March Went for bike ride with Daddy from 6 till 7, then home to breakfast, and up to church at 8 for the blessing of the Font & Mass. Maudie stayed home from work, unwell, & finished making my blue dress for Easter Sunday, & I dyed my black hat & trimmed it with blue ribbon to match. Also dyed & re-trimmed Phyl & Doll's black hats.

Sun. 23rd March. Easter Sunday. Maudie, Humfrey & I at 7 Mass - Horace and babies at 9 Mass. Went for bike ride with Daddy at 12. Mother Aquin & Sister M. Claver called in afternoon and brought me pretty Easter Cards. Another bike ride before tea, & afterwards wrote to Les. Maudie & Phyllis biked to Leederville this aftn, & called on Miss Armstrong.

Mon. 24th March Daddy, Maudie & I rose at 5.15 and biked to Guildford for breakfast, returning home by

10.15. He then went up to Convent & photoed interior of Nun's Chapel.

Tues. 25th March Letter from my mother for my birthday to say present on its way. Posted letters to Leslie from Maudie, Dolly & me & sent him 6 stamps. Letter from Leslie to Maudie, asking for Holy Card.

Wed. 26th March Biked up to 7 Mass & Communion by myself. Then Phyl & I biked out to Mrs. Shine's & bought a brass crucifix, nickel font & cards to send Leslie. Mrs. McGrade called to see me between 11 &

Sat. 15th March Daddy, Maudie & I at 7 Mass & Communion. I am 47 to-day. Daddy's present was my Thurs. 27th March Biked up to 7 Mass & Communion by myself.

Fri. 28th March Biked up to 7 Mass. Saw Father Fagan for last time as he leaves to-morrow for about 8 month's trip for his health. Phyl & Doll went to lunch at Isabel's.

Sat. 29th March Daddy & I rose early & biked all round the Mount's Bay Rd., thro' the Park to Subiaco gates, round home thro' Leederville - 1¾ hour's ride.

Sun. 30th March Maudie & I went to Communion at 7 Mass & Daddy came after to 9 with me. Maudie went to tea at Stanbury's & biked out to a Mission at Maylands by Father Treacy. In the morning, she & Dolly biked to Nedlands & back for a swim.

Mon. 31st March Rose at 5.45 & went biking with Daddy. Posted letter and little parcel to Leslie of holy things. Children returned to school this morning.

Tues. 1st April Biked to 7 Mass & Communion by myself. Letter from Henry.

Wed. 2nd April After breakfast, Daddy & I biked thro the town to Gen. P.O. & got parcel from my mother (a white matte blouse). Mela came down in afternoon with a piece of Connie's cake from Mrs. Stanbury. She took the black veil last Saturday.

Thurs. 3rd April Maudie brought my flowers for S.H. Altar. Daddy sent S.M. Claver, by Phyllis, 2 photos of their Chapel. I made up Altar in aftn & went to meeting at 7.30 with Maudie.

Fri. 4th April Maudie & I biked up to 7 Mass, & after breakfast, Daddy & I went out to Arranmore to take Mother Aquin a Chapel photo. Sister M. Claver & S. Marg. Mary called in afternoon & asked Daddy to do them 4 dozen.

Sat. 5th April Daddy & I went for early bike ride & in afternoon visited S. Perth to see Horace & Roy at work on their new boat. Then went on to Mrs. Murray's but found all out.

Sun. 6th April Maudie & I biked up to 7 Mass & Communion for S.H. Sodality & Daddy came with me to 9 afterwards. Maudie & Dolly biked out during the morning to Nedlands for a swim. Daddy went up to Cathedral at 1 o'clock to photo interior. Mary Keenan came to tea with the children & went to evening Procession.

Mon. 7th April Daddy & I went for ride round St. Geo. Terrace. Then I finished writing & posted letter to my mother with P.C. of myself with bicycle, also posting last photo of Leslie in an art cover. Then continued making my trumpet lily bed. Daddy went twice to take Cathedral to-day, both failures - also yesterday's.

Tues. 8th April Maudie & I rose at 5 and biked to Subiaco Mission at 6 o'clock, in the dark. Letters from Leslie to Daddy, Maudie & me.

Wed. 9th April Raining hard, so could not bike with Daddy this morning. He walked after breakfast to Boans & bought a pocket flask & bottle Crawford's Whisky to give up his Stout. Maudie & I trained to Subiaco Mission this evening.

Thurs. 10th April Maudie & I biked to 6 o'clock Mission at Subiaco. Daddy & I rode up to Mrs. Scully's in aftn to inquire how Katie's knee was getting on.

Fri. 11th April Phyllis & I left home at 8.15 and trained to the wind-up of the children's mission, when Father Grogan gave them all the Pope's blessing. We took some flowers for the special S.H. Ceremony to-night. Maudie went up to Stanbury's to go with them & Humfrey also went with a friend. Phyl & I bought 3 medals off the Mission stall to wear instead of scapulars. Kathleen Fallon called this evening to say goodbye to Maudie but she was at the Mission.

Sat. 12th April Daddy & I biked up to town to get his new slippers & stockings for me in the morning. In aftn we biked out to see the Subiaco Church, leaving the 4 doz. photos of Nun's Chapel at St. Brigid's Convent, that Rev. Mother asked for. Kathleen Fallon & Madeleine Molloy left this morning for 2 month's trip to the East. Maudie & Phyl went round to wish her goodbye before breakfast & took her 2 fancy handkerchiefs.

Sun. 13th April Maudie, Dolly & I went to Communion at 7 Mass. Then Daddy & I rode out to the 10.30 Mission at Subiaco, but Fr. Grogan preached on the Wrath of God against those who postponed their conversion, which unfortunately disgusted him. Maudie went up to see Katie Scully after Sodality & then on to the Stanbury's for the Subiaco Mission to-night. Dad & I went for long ride out East Perth way, & then I wrote to Les. Dolly found a sovereign in the sand at the bottom of the garden.

Mon. 14th April Dolly & I gardened before breakfast & afterwards, I did some more while Daddy went up to photo Cathedral interior a 4th time. Dolly & I went to town in afternoon & she bought 2 tennis rackets & a ball for Phyl's birthday out of her £1, & is going to bank 10/-. I bought 19 ft. ½ in. hose to add to our old one & new screw for the tap out of my pocket money. Maudie wrote to Les this evening & I added a few more lines.

Tues. 15th April Maudie & I biked to 6 Mass at Subiaco Mission. Posted letters to Leslie from Maudie & me. Dolly bought herself a grocer-shop out of the £1 she found last Sunday.

Wed. 16th April Letter from Rev. Mother thanking Daddy for the 4 doz. photos of Chapel.

Thurs. 17th April Daddy & I started at 9 & rode to Victoria Park, & he bought me 2/6 worth plants for my garden coming back. Letter from Mrs. McGrade.

Fri. 18th April Maudie & I biked to 6 Mass at Subiaco Mission & told Fr. Grogan about Isabel going to Rosalie Mission next week.

Sat. 19th April Maudie & I biked out to Barker Road in afternoon to call on Mrs. McGrade for the 1st time.

Tues. 29th April Phyllis & I went for bike-ride from 8 till half past a.m. In afternoon Dolly & I biked up town & I bought her a pair of black box-calf lace-up shoes 7/11 at Ezywalkins, also gloves & sox at Economic, & some more ½ in. hose at Bethel & Thurston.

Wed. 30th April I took Phyllis to town & bought her some shoes like Dolly's.

Thurs. 1st May We all went to 7 Mass for "Ascension Day" except Daddy. He brought home a big snapper after breakfast, and in afternoon, while Phyl & I did the Sacred H. Altar, he went to Subiaco & stayed the night with Fr. O'Brien. Girls & I went to S.H. Meeting. Eric home in bed with influenza.

Fri. 2nd May Girls & I went to 7 Mass for 1st Friday. Eric still in bed, tho' better. Isabel came to dinner & stayed until 9 o'clock with Eric.

Sat. 3rd May Daddy returned early this morning & stayed with me all day. Eric better, got up to lunch & went with Maudie & Horace afterwards to S.Perth to launch Horace & Roy's new yacht, when she was christened "Mercedes" by Maudie. Mrs. Murray & Barbara entertained about 15 of them for the evening. Sun. 4th May Maudie & I went in our Guild at 7 Mass, also Horace, Humfrey & children.

Fri. 9th May Dolly & I went to 7 Mass. In evening Daddy & I went to "Melrose" & saw a tiny performing pig, etc.

Sat. 10th May Daddy & I rode to Subiaco on our bikes & went to Confession to Fr. O'Brien.

Sun. 11th May Daddy & I went to 7 Mass. He wrote to Les in evening, promising to send him his camera again.

Mon. 12th May Daddy & I at 7 Mass. Letters from Leslie to me, Dolly & Maudie. Miss Morrison called at 4 o'clock for an hour's chat with Daddy & me about entering the Catholic Church. Invited her to come again Wednesday.

Letter from Anton to Humfrey & from Elsie Leah to Maudie. Humfrey fetched home the banjo Maudie bought for herself yesterday, secondhand for 35/- in case.

Thurs. 22nd May "Corpus Christi". I & girls at 7 Mass & Communion.

Fri. 23rd May "Empire Day". Mrs. Gray took Phyl & Dolly to see the procession to the Esplanade, & they went with all the schools free to the Pictures in the aftn. Daddy & I started at 10.20 & rode to Canning Bridge, returning at ¼ to 1.

Sat. 24th May Maudie & I at Mass & Communion for Feast of Our Lady Help of Christians. Brian Young brought his sister, Bettie, down at 11.30 & after lunch they went with Phyl & Dolly to Vic's Pictures. Maudie went with Isabel & her sister to see Eric's Lacrosse match, his side winning 11 goals to 3. Horace came over from S. Perth at tea-time to fetch Maudie there for an evening - each to represent a town. Maudie pinned a card on her opera cloak written on "Complimentary" for Miss M. Rumble as "Fremantle". Horace wore a pin made of wicker "Wickepin". The prize winner wore a wooden E made with bevelled edges "Beverley".

Sun. 25th May Dolly & I went to 7 Mass & Communion. Daddy & I went to 9 Mass & afterwards had a ride round the town. Then did some gardening. Another ride for ½ hr. in aftn & more gardening till tea time. Then wrote to Les while the others were at church. Last May Procession. 1st Anniversary of my father's death.

Mon. 26th May Posted letters to Leslie from me & Maudie. Letters from Leslie to Dolly & me, & Holy Card for Phyl's birthday done by himself.

Tues. 27th May Daddy went to "Melrose" & heard whistling girl.

Thurs. 29th May Rode with Daddy to town to buy flowers in morning & in aftn made up S.H. Altar. In evening Eric, I & girls attended the monthly meeting.

Fri. 30th May I & girls attended 7 Mass & went to Communion for Feast of S. Heart, & Maudie & I went again in evening.

Sat. 31st May Eric brought Isabel home to lunch & then Maudie accompanied them to watch the Lacrosse match.

Sun. 1st June We all went to 9 Mass except Dad, in bed with heavy cold, which I've started too.

Mon. 2nd June Foundation Day. Dad & I home all day with colds. Horace building his boat at S. Perth. Maudie & Dolly biked to Nedlands for a swim & then called on the Andersons. Phyllis, Vera Howard & Carmel Kent went to Spencer's pictures in afternoon. Humfrey biked to Armadale for dinner, pictures at night. Posted letter to Mrs. Sloan.

Tues. 3rd June Posted letters to Leslie from me, Dolly & Phyl. Letters from Les to Puppa & Maudie. Posted invitations for our party on Saturday. Phyl & Doll went to lunch with Betty & Brian.

Wed. 4th June Maudie bought a silver hatpin & guard as a prize for the game on Saturday. Eric met Willie Leslie & invited him to our party.

Sat. 7th June Had our party to-day. The Murrays were prevented from coming, but we sat down 19 to supper, without Maudie & I who waited at table, & Daddy left home at 5 to be out of it. We had music & songs & the "Whistling Game", over which Miss Armstrong won the prize -a silver hat pin & guard, & Isabel won the booby prize - a black dog loving couple. Afterwards, we had the game of winks, breaking up at eleven on a/c of the trains. Horace's friend, Mr. Langridge came & was great fun, & Frank McAdam sang two splendid songs.

Sun. 8th June I went to 7 Mass alone, all too tired after the party. Daddy did not return till tea-time.

Mon. 9th June Posted short letter to Les. Letter from Les.

Thurs. 12th June Washing to-day instead of Tuesday. Also, Dad went up to Fr. Brennan & took the pledge.

Wed. 18th June Dad, Horace & I went to Mass & Communion for Holl's 24th birthday. We clubbed together & bought him a Primus for the "Mercedes" & pair of nail scissors. Went with Dad & Maudie to Rosary & Confession.

Sat. 21st June Dad & I at Mass for his 47th birthday, tho' drenching with rain. Gave him my usual pair of slippers. Maudie rode out in aftn with Phyl to call on Mrs. McGrade, but finding her at a case, went on to Isabel's. Eric playing Lacrosse at Fremantle beat the Wallaby's 21 goals to 4.

Sun. 22nd June Miss Morrison came with me only to 7 Mass, as I had promised to shew her the service. Dad, I & girls went to 11 afterwards. Wrote to Les in evening.

Mon. 23rd June Posted Les his camera & legs. Horace paid postage 6/10 parcels post. Also posted letter to Les from me. Received letter from Les at lunch.

Tues. 24th June Letter from Auntie Blanche in answer to my note of Ap. 28th. Posted another letter back to her the same evening. Doris Hedges 18 to-day - gave her a

C. of Mary's Manual.

Thurs. 26th June Daddy gave me a beautiful new prayer book entitled "With God" and he & I went to Confession this evening to Fr. Brennan to gave (?) the plenary indulgence during the 40 hour Exposition starting tomorrow. Sent some flowers and bamboos.

Fri. 27th June Daddy & I went to Mass & Communion at 7 and again to 9 for the High Mass starting the 40 hrs. 4 priests officiated & Procession of Bl. S. afterwards with all the school children. Daddy & I paid a visit at 4 o'clock & took S.M. Claver a box of nightlights for our red lamps. Spent ¼ hr in church & afterwards came up to Rosary. Maudie & Bernie watched ½ hour.

Sat. 28th June Maudie & I at 7 Mass & Communion this morning, Mass at S.H. Altar. Dad & I biked up town at 10 o'clock to buy some roses for the High Altar from Maudie & selves, which we took up in afternoon when we paid our visit. Maudie & Bernie watched again from

1.30 till 2. Then she had dinner & took Phyl to Isabel's for the 1st rehearsal of the play she is in. I took over the housekeeping again to-day, Daddy allowing me £5.16.0 a week. Dolly had Kathleen O'Dhea & her little sister & Molly Scott to tea & spend the aftn.

Sun. 29th June Daddy & I went to 7 Mass. Miss Morrison came in aftn, stayed to tea & accompanied us to church - the close of the 40 hours with Procession of Bl. Sacrament.

Tues. 1st July. Posted letters & 2 photos of Maudie to Leslie, her as a boy & a nigger. Posted letter to Auntie Blanche with same 2 photos from Maudie. Letter from Miss Morrison with copy of poem I wanted. Maudie paid a visit to Mrs. McGrade.

Sun. 6th July We all went to 9 Mass, Maudie & Phyllis to evening Procession. Phyl & Dolly trammed to the Andersons in the aftn to return Isabel's coat & parasol, returning at 6 with some mignonette & violets for me. Daddy & I wrote letters.

Mon. 7th July Daddy & I rode up town after breakfast, keeping Phyl from school, & I bought my new winter shoes 5/11 at Ezywalkins. Afterwards we gardened. Posted letters to Leslie from Daddy and to my mother from me, enclosing to both photos of Maudie dressed as a boy with banjo, & also as nigger with same. Sent mother several photos also taken by Daddy - Queen's Gardens & St. Brigid's etc.

Wed. 9th July Daddy & I went for bike ride in morning, & in aftn trammed to Subiaco and called on Mrs. Anderson, for the 1st time, as she had just returned from Adelaide.

Fri. 11th July Daddy & I at 7 Mass & Communion. After breakfast we rode to Mill Point, S. Perth on our bikes, but came across the water home in the "Duchess". Bought a palm for the drawing-room at Roselea Nursery, out with Daddy in the evening, for 2/-

Sat. 12th July Isabel came to lunch and Eric took her & Maudie to the Lacrosse Match afterwards. Phyl & Dolly went to tea with Lily Staines in Stirling St., & Daddy & I to S.Perth to call on the Murray's.

Sun. 13th July Maudie, Dolly and Humfrey at 7 Mass, Horace, Phyllis & I at 9. Daddy stayed home with gout. After breakfast Maudie rode round to S.Perth with Dolly, arriving at the Murray's at 10.30, then came back by boat.

Mon. 14th July Drenching wet. Posted letter to Leslie from me. Miss Gribble came to dinner and Mr. Langridge at 7.30 to spend the evening. M.R. 3rd.

Tues. 15th July Letter from Leslie to Horace only. Eric brought me a box of plants from Isabel. I ran into a shut door in the dark & cut my lip & bruised my nose.

Fri. 18th July Mrs. Sloan called in aftn. Mary stayed to dinner.

Sat. 19th July Maudie brought me home a bunch of jonquils as a present. I gave Horace some pansy & cosmos plants to take to Mrs. Murray, and Maudie took some to Isabel when she went to Subiaco in aftn for another rehearsal of their play.

Sun. 20th July Daddy & I at 9 Mass. Maudie & Dolly rode to S.Perth in aftn, found the Murrays out. Eric brought Isabel to tea & afterwards took her with Maudie to St. Brigid's. Miss Morrison returned my Life of St. Francis this afternoon on the verandah, but did not call further.

Tues. 22nd July Letter from Leslie to me. Mrs. Gray sent me some cosmos plants in afternoon.

Wed. 23rd July Posted letters to Leslie from Maudie and me with a new black tie to wear.

Thurs. 24th July I called on Mrs. Campbell and borrowed from her a soldier's coat & hat for Maudie's theatricals. She took the hat to wear at another rehearsal this evening at Subiaco & Eric fetched her home.

Fri. 25th July Maudie dressed up this evening after making a wig & moustache, & went to see Mrs. Campbell with Phyllis & afterwards the Scott's, frightening Mrs. S. when she answered the door.

Sat. 26th July Maudie went for another rehearsal to Isabel's this afternoon.

Sun. 27th July Daddy, I, & girls went to 7 Mass. After breakfast, Maudie and Phyllis rode to Nedlands Baths for a swim, but found them shut. Daddy & I went for a ride in afternoon.

Mon. 28th July Maudie went to dinner with Miss Gribble this evening, and Horace & Mr. Langridge went

there about 8 p.m.

Thurs. 31st July Mrs. Grey came to iron & brought me some more French marigolds for my garden and 2 marguerites. Maudie took Phyllis & Dolly this evening to the Anderson's to see the dress rehearsal of their play.

Sat. 2nd August Daddy went to "Melrose" Theatre this evening, & Maudie & I to the Anderson's to see "The Loan of a Lover". Eric introduced me to Mr. Hamilton, who saw us home by tram afterwards & came in for some coffee at midnight with Daddy & Horace.

Sun. 3rd August Mr. Hamilton called while Dad & I were at 9 Mass, & he, Maudie & Dolly biked round to S.Perth to see Horace's new boat, & returned to dinner with us, leaving at 5 p.m. to tea with the Anderson's, before returning to his camp.

Tues. 5th August Posted letter to Les from Maudie & short note from me. Letter from Leslie to me only. Letter from Auntie Blanche to Eric.

Wed. 6th August Daddy left this morning for Wickepin. Posted him a little letter this aftn. Maudie & I went to Rosary this evening.

Sat. 9th August Posted letters to Leslie from Maudie & me. She & I took the children to Spencer's Pictures in afternoon, while Bertie Dawson & Humfrey calcimised our kitchen. Maudie sent Leslie a black silk knitted tie for his 21st birthday, & I, 2 vests for winter.

Mon. 11th August Phyllis & I at 7 Mass. Man called about repairs to our stove. Letter from Daddy. Posted reply to Wickepin. Bought Hilda a Ch. of Mary Manual & called on them in aftn for her birthday, July 18th, which I had forgotten. Maudie & I went to S.H. Retreat again tonight.

Tues. 12th August Missed Mass this morning, very galey wet day. Mrs. Olsen washed, but we got nothing dry. Letter from Leslie to Maudie. Sent Maudie to tell Miss Morrison it was too wet to go to Mission Retreat tonight. Gave Horace a note asking Barbara to come next Monday for the evening, and to sleep here.

Wed. 13th August Missed Mass, still wet, clothes not dry . Posted letter to Daddy. Received letter from Daddy.

Thurs. 14th August Posted letters to Leslie for his 21st birthday from Phyllis & Dolly with a Holy Card from each. I also sent him by P.P. two winter singlets & 2 Latin books he asked for. Eric sent him 2 ebony backed hair-brushes. Went to Confession with Phyllis to Fr. Brennan. Telegram 10 to 6 from Daddy at Wickepin no letter from me.

Fri. 15th August "Feast of Assumption". Posted letter to Daddy, Wickepin. All went to 7 Mass; About 150 children made their 1st Communion. Maudie biked up to Monastery to get back first for the breakfast. Our new kitchen stove was put in this morning & Humfrey gave the last coat of calcimine to the kitchen in evening, whilst

Maudie & I went to Highgate Retreat.

Then I spent

remainder of the day blacking the kitchen stove, brick setting & mantelpiece & painting white the shelves. Then scrubbed out the floor & oilcloth, by which time it was midnight.

Sun. 17th August Ch. of Mary's Gen. Communion. Maudie & I at 7, rest at 9. Spent my morning carrying back the kitchen things from the verandah & cooking the dinner. Alan rode over from S. Perth & arrived here at 11 a.m. on Maudie's invitation, to photo a bust head of her in Capt. Amersfort's (?) clothing, so stayed to dinner, leaving at 3.30 as we were all going up to see Doris & Hilda & other girls consecrated Ch. of Mary at 4 o'clock. Humfrey had gone to the funeral of a young fellow at his office, who fell down their lift a day or 2 ago. Maudie & I wrote letters in the evening, too tired for church.

Sun. 24th August Les 21 to-day. Daddy came with me to 9 Mass - we all agreed to offer it for Les.

Tues. 26th August Daddy left for Nunagin(?). We found our oldest parrot dead this morning. I went to 7 Mass. Dolly came home this aftn, sick. Letter from Henry and indenture of grandpa's Will to sign & return.

Wed. 27th August Went to 9 Mass, then gave Dolly castor oil to reduce her fever & kept her in bed. Bought a hen parrot 2/6.

Fri. 29th August 7 Mass yesterday & to-day. Dolly in my bed with fire - heavy cold. Isabel came to dinner & went with Eric & Maudie to see Quo Vadis, came back & slept the night here. Posted letter to Daddy.

Sat. 30th August 7 Mass. Dolly better, got up for awhile. Phyllis rode to Mrs. Lethbridge's & took Eileen a doll for her birthday yesterday. Maudie went to an evening at the Murray's. Letter & telegram from Daddy

Sun. 31st August Phyl & I at 9 Mass. Maudie & Dolly at 11. Phyllis & I biked to 11 at Cathedral. Humfrey biked to Mundaring Weir & beat the train by 10 minutes. Girlie Keely came to tea & we took her back to Monastery in evening. Maudie & Dolly biked to Anderson's in aftn to taste Mr. H's oranges.

Mon. 1st September Daddy home 10.30 a.m. Went to 7 Mass. Posted letter to Leslie. Dolly not so well, so keeping her home this week.

Tues. 2nd September Sister M. Claver & S. M. Catherine called this aftn, after Dolly.

Wed. 3rd September Daddy stayed home to mind Dolly & Eric took Maudie & me to Philharmonic Concert with the Andersons, to hear "Elijah". Got Mrs. Hedges to witness my signature to "Indenture" sent from London re Grandpa's Will. Daddy made out our 2 Wills & we got Doris & Hilda to sign as witnesses.

Thurs. 4th September Went to S.H. meeting in evening with Maudie only, as Phyl had been all day at the Zoo picnic for the High School girls - Dolly too sick to go. Daddy went to Melrose.

Fri. 5th September Took Mrs. Hedges a glass table centre & flowers for her birthday. Maudie & I at 7 Mass. Daddy posted our Indenture to the lawyers in London.

Sun. 7th September Daddy & I at Communion at 7 Mass. We went a long ride over the Causeway to the bush after breakfast, to get wildflowers - home at 12. Maudie & Phyl rode to Andersons in aftn & Maudie had a spill coming down Hay St. as her screw was gone from the brake, but she only got bruised & went to Procession in evening with Phyl & Humfrey, in thanksgiving.

Mon. 8th September Went to Shine's after breakfast to buy a ruby fairy light for S.M. Claver's Feast Day, leaving Dolly in bed. Then called at Convent School & saw S.M. Aloysius, who said it was not till the 9th. Maudie went to Elocution class this evening & brought home a new reciter - 4/-.

Tues. 9th September Dolly still in bed tho' better to-day. Maudie also sick & stayed in bed; Miss Gribble came to see her on her way home. Letters from Leslie to mother, Phyllis & Dolly. Biked up to S.M. Claver with her present, mid-day.

Wed. 10th September Daddy left for Brookton. Went to 9 Mass, then to see Mrs. McGrade in Colin St. She came with Maudie & me to the school concert at Arranmore in the evening. I let Dolly get up for the morning, but it made her worse, so she went back to bed at lunchtime. 3 photos of Les in group, the Towers, & their chapel came. Mrs. McGrade gave me a nice one of Bernie.

Thurs. 11th September Went to 7 Mass. Letter from Daddy. Got Dr. Merryweather to come & see Dolly - a touch of bronchitis. Isabel's birthday. Maudie & I sent her a picture between us & Dolly & Phyl, a card. Eric brought a note & some lovely flowers from her late tonight.

Fri. 12th September Went to 7 Mass. Daddy came home ¼ to 11 a.m. Dolly's medicine has much improved her. Isabel sent her a book - "Little Women".

Sat. 13th September Daddy & I went for bike ride before breakfast. Doctor paid his last visit to Dolly & said she could get up to-morrow. Phyllis finished teaching Hilda to ride the bike.

Sun. 14th September Daddy came to Mass & Communion with me at 7 Mass. After breakfast we rode round the town. Then Dolly got up & came in the dining room with a fire. Maudie & Phyl rode their bikes to the Murray's, S. Perth.

Mon. 15th September Daddy & I at 7 Mass. Long letter from Les to me and a letter-card from him to Dolly because she was sick. She also had her second letter from Mr. Hamilton.

Tues. 16th September Daddy left for Wongan Hills by 8 a.m. train, leaving me in bed with bad cold till 8.15. Very showery washing day. Posted letters to Leslie from Dolly & me. Maudie also wrote to him.

Wed. 17th September Stayed in bed late for my cold & rode up to 9 Mass. There was none, the holidays being on, so I said my morning prayers, came home & hung out the washing again. Lovely sunny day, & I trammed Dolly & Doris Hedges up to Subiaco gates. Hilda & Phyllis, riding on the bikes, reached there first & we lunched in the bush & got a lot of wild flowers - home at 5 p.m. Letter card from Daddy. Posted him a letter this evening.

Thurs. 18th September Phyl & Dolly biked up to Stanbury's after breakfast to invite Gertie to come tomorrow till Sunday. Then Dolly came for a visit to church with me & after lunch they biked to Subiaco & played with Betty till 5.

Fri. 19th September Phyl & I at 7 Mass & Communion. After breakfast Girlie arrived & went with Phyl & Doll to meet Bettie by the 9 train, & she came with us to spend the day at the Zoo. We took her back to Isabel at Beath's at 10 to 5.

Sat. 20th September Maudie & I at Mass & Communion at 7. After breakfast I returned Mrs. Campbell her basket & gave her 2 P.C's of Maudie in "The Loan of a Lover". Then I took Phyl up to town & bought her a new pair of shoes 4/11 & some sox & stockings, & some flowers at Newman's for Mrs. Murray, which Horace took over. Maudie & Dolly biked to Nedlands in aftn for swim. Letter from Daddy.

Sun. 21st September I went to 9 Mass, Maudie & Dolly to 7. Then they biked again to Nedlands for another swim. Maudie & I trammed to the Anderson's for afternoon tea, getting home 6.30, & then took Girlie up to the Monastery, & not seeing the Stanburys there, took her on to their place - waited ½ an hour till they returned.

Mon. 22nd September Overslept - missed Mass. Posted framed picture of Holy Family to my mother for her birthday. Posted letter to Daddy at Wongan Hills. Posted letters to Grannie from Maudie & me, & P.C. of Maudie as Capt. Amersfort. Met Miss Morrison to-day; she has quite decided not to become a R.C. since writing to an ex-priest.

Tues. 23rd September Dolly & I at 7 Mass. Posted letter to Leslie. Posted letter to Henry enclosing bust-head of Maudie as Cap'n. Amersfort. Received letters from Leslie to Daddy & me. Letter from Grannie from the Pyrenes, 2 P.C's from Mary Gerard travelling with her & Fred, & P.C. for Maudie from Grannie. Maudie dined at Anderson's for another rehearsal.

I met them at 1.30 & we went shopping & bought them shoes & sox each, and new summer hats for best - also presents for Granny & Auntie Blanche. Maudie went to Miss Hills, Claremont for "Longfellow" rehearsal. Eric brought me roses & sweet peas from Isabel.

Wed. 12th November Mass & Communion at 9. Took

S.M. Claver the roses for the Altar. Maudie took Phyllis to the Choir Practice & let her join. Another letter card from Daddy.

Thurs. 13th November Mass & Communion at 7. Biked at 10.30 to Barrack St. Jetty & took it across to S. Perth, & rode to Mrs. Murray's to invite her & her sister to Maudie's "Longfellow Evening". Caught the 12.45 boat back, reaching home 1.10. Letter card from Daddy.

Fri. 14th November Mass & Communion at 7. Daddy came at 11 a.m. Posted letter to Auntie Blanche for Xmas, also a side-board cloth from Daddy & me & copy of Western Mail with Maudie's play in. Posted sideboard cloth to my mother with copy of Western Mail also of Oct. 24th.

Sat. 15th November Maudie, Phyl & Doll went for a picnic to Nedlands with the Andersons. Daddy & I biked to the ferry & crossed to S.Perth to see the boys launch the "Mercedes" from the Murray's. Daddy snapped it with his new camera, twice, tho' we got there a bit late, so Alan piggy-backed him to the boat to see the interior. Mrs. Murray entertained 18 of them to tea afterwards, but Dad & I biked back.

Sun. 16th November Daddy & I at 9 Mass. Bike ride in afternoon. Madeleine Molloy's banns given out 2nd time.

Wed. 19th November Stayed home to-day - out of sorts kept Phyl from school. Posted P.C. to Mrs. Murray to bring her sister to lunch Friday. Letter from Leslie.Maudie brought home proof of Humfrey's photo. Letter from Barbara to say Mrs. Murray cannot come Friday. Posted letter to Daddy.

Tues. 25th November Letter from Henry. Maudie at Anderson's to dinner for practice. Letter from Les toHorace.

Wed. 26th November Daddy left 6.40 for Kununoppin. Went to 9 Mass. Phyl & Dolly rode out to Subiaco after school to take Bettie a cup & saucer for her birthday. Maudie trammed out to see Lu. Phyl got punctured, so Reu (?) rode home with her on Dolly's bike, wheeling hers beside his own, & Dolly trammed back with Maudie, & Reu stayed to dinner with us.

Thurs. 27th November Mass & Communion at 7. Gave Humfrey 15/-for a new tyre to my back wheel, & 6d. to mend puncture, which he did to-night. Maudie went to last rehearsal at Miss Kimber's. Letter to Daddy.

Fri. 28th November Mass & Communion at 7. Letter from Daddy. Rose at 5 a.m. & did an hour's gardening before Mass. Posted letter to Leslie. Letter from Daddy.

Sat. 29th November Mass & Communion at 7. Went with Maudie and Doris Hedges to the Longfellow evening, at Karrakatta Club room, St. George's Terrace. Maudie acted "Preciosa" in "the Spanish Student". St. Brigid's Bazaar opened. I gave Phyl a toy boat to take up & raffle, Dolly and Jessie Gray went with her. Unfortunately, a heavy thunderstorm came up.

Sun. 30th November Mass & Communion at 7. Gardened most of morning - slept in aftn. Wrote letters in evening, also Maudie. Horace took his primus & they went for their 1st sail in the Mercedes, in spite of the thunderstorm still continuing since noon.

Mon. 1st December Laid in this morning, too tired. Made some cakes for the bazaar after breakfast, which the girls took up to the refreshment stall this evening. Telegram from Daddy, home 9.30 to-morrow morning. Finished writing my Xmas letters this evening.

Wed. 2nd December Daddy left again for Kununoppin 5 p.m. Went up to bazaar after dinner with children. Raffled a boat for the boys.

Thurs. 3rd December Missed Mass. Telegram from Daddy, safe arrival. Biked to G.P.O. after lunch & fetched parcel of gifts from Mary Gerard & my mother. Lace, rosary beads, glass casket from Lourdes, etc. Phyl & Hilda Hedges made up my S.H. Altar. I & girls went to S.H. meeting in evening. Posted letter to Daddy.

Fri. 5th December Mass at 7. Went to Economic in morning, paid their Bill & bought some things for Xmas. Maudie & I went up again in evening and I bought 1 doz. Zinnia plants for my garden.

Sat. 6th December Missed Mass. Planted my seedlings in before breakfast. Maudie & I stayed home all day at needlework, etc. We went to Confession in evening for 1st Sunday, Humf & girls in aftn.

Sun. 7th December All went to Mass & Communion at 7 (except Horace) for the S.H. Sodality; Dolly at 9 C. Horace took lunch & tea & went sailing. Humf & girls came to evening service. I called on the Campbells in the afternoon and heard from Col. C. all about his visit to Leslie, who has promised to come home next Xmas, instead of this. Posted letter to Daddy.

Mon. 8th December Feast of Im. Con. I and Dolly went to 6.30 Mass & Communion. Maudie & Phyl came up to 7. I stayed on & sent Dolly home, as I wanted to finish making my second Jubilee for the "Peace of Constantine" ending to-day.

Tues. 9th December Stayed from Mass to make Dolly a pair of bloomers before breakfast. Letters from Leslie to Horace & Maudie. I biked to Shine's and bought a statue of St. Joseph for Dolly's Xmas present 3/6, then to McDermott's & got the other ruby fairy light & took it up to S.M. Claver. After tea, Maudie & I visited Dorothy McCarthy at Nurse Bevan's to see her 1st baby. Then Maudie & Phyllis went up to St. Brigid's to start their retreat till next Sunday. Posted letters to Les from Phyl & me + 5/- for Xmas.

Wed. 10th December Mass & Communion at 7.

Thurs. 11th December Mass & Communion at 7. Letter from Daddy. Posted letter to Daddy, 11.25 p.m.

Fri. 12th December. Mass & Communion at 7. Sent a wire to Kununoppin Station Master in case my letter did not arrive, as the collecting car came up 11.20. Took the cake dish we are giving Mrs. Murray up to Levinson's, Barrack St., to have "Mercedes 1913" engraved on it. Also took Maudie her love letter.

Sat. 13th December Mass at 7. Letters from Daddy and New Year Card from the Murrays. Maudie enamelled our bath this afternoon. We worked at concert clothes till midnight directly she & Phyl returned from their retreat.

Sun. 14th December Mass at 11 o'clock. Wind up of Ch. of Mary's Retreat at 7 Mass with breakfast at Convent. Maudie calcimined the back verandah & gave the bath another coat of enamel. Pope's blessing to-night for Ch. of Mary & Procession of Bl. Sacrament. Posted letter to Daddy.

Mon. 15th December Mass & Communion at 7. Isabel came to dinner & Eric took us all to Her Majesty's Theatre in the evening for St. Brigid's breakup. The nuns complimented Maudie on the children's wings & fairy dresses. Maudie bought a verandah blind for her bed outside & let Isabel sleep there.

Tues. 16th December Isabel left after breakfast. Posted letters to Leslie from Maudie, Dolly & me. Letters from Leslie to Maudie, Phyl & Dolly for Xmas.

Wed. 17th December Mass & Communion at 7. Met Maudie at Economic corner at 5.35, to choose some new curtains for the dining room. Telegram from Daddy.

Thurs. 18th December Started at 10 to 5 to spring clean the dining room. Humf. took off the door & we hung curtains instead. Horace made me a round towel roller for bathroom & Maudie made a new dining room tablecloth of green art serge & fringe. Posted letter to Daddy & Maudie's letter to Bernadine with handkerchief for her wedding day on Saturday.

Fri. 19th December Mass and Communion at 7 thunderstorm on. Maudie biked to catch the 8 ferry to S. Perth to get a negative off Alan for Wilmott to enlarge this morning.

Sat. 20th December Maudie worked back this afternoon to get next Sat. morning instead on to her Xmas holidays. Then went to S.Perth to bring home my bike, getting home to tea here at 6.30, & finding Mr. Hamilton had arrived for Xmas, so he stayed for tea & the evening. Daddy also came 8.30. Bernie was married at St. Brigid's this afternoon.

Sun. 21st December Daddy & I at 9 Mass. Maudie, Mr. Hamilton & 2 Miss Gribbles went yachting with Horace for the day.

Mon. 22nd December Mr. Hamilton came to dinner at 5 p.m. & evening.

Tues. 23rd December Letter from Leslie to me for Xmas. Chrissie Olsen came after breakfast to say her mother too sick to come to wash. Hunted round for another woman & got Mrs. Norris in Lake St. to come at once & promised her the washing for the future. I made 44 mince pies in the evening, whilst Daddy went to "Melrose" with Riley.

Wed. 24th December Mrs. Gray came to iron. Gave her a glass salad bowl for Xmas box & Jessie, cash box of chocs from Phyl & Doll. Mr. Hamilton met Maudie

5.30 at studio & came back with her to dinner. Mr. Shulstad brought us 2 lovely white ducks, & we gave him a box of mince pies to take, with Xmas card, to his wife. Dolly took Mrs. Campbell some mince pies & Maudie, Mr. Hamilton & Phyllis took our Xmas parcel up to the Anderson's after dinner, returning in time for Midnight Mass which we all went to except Mr. Hamilton, who returned home. Calendar from my mother & parcel of gifts from Auntie Blanche & letter from Auntie Blanche.

Thurs. 25th December Only Horace & Eric went to 7 Mass - breakfast at 8 & all our presents. Daddy gave me an umbrella. Eric & Isabel gave us 4 electro tablespoons. Maudie gave us framed photograph of our 7 children, taken separately. Humfrey gave me a glass salad bowl. Phyl & Dolly gave me a china ornament of child & doves.

Daddy & I gave Horace a hair-brush. Eric 2 "Fun Doctors" Coles. Maudie hair-brush. Comb from Dolly & bag from Phyl to keep them in. Humfrey pyjamas, & shaving pot from Phyl & Doll. Phyllis Canadian bathing costume. Dolly coloured statue of St. Joseph.

Dolly took Mrs. Hedges a glass salad bowl after breakfast, & Doris brought some of their pudding & cakes in the afternoon. Mr. Hamilton came to dinner & for rest of day. Horace and Eric went off with the "Mercedes" and crew for Xmas holidays to the Islands. Humf & 4 pals camped at Como, after staying to Xmas dinner. Phyl got the silver thimble, 2 threepennies & mido doll in her helping of pudding.

Fri. 26th December Daddy & I stayed home. Mr. Hamilton, Maudie, Phyl & Doll picnic'd at Nedlands.

Sat. 27th December Mr. Hamilton came to dinner & then they went to Nedlands again till past 9. Daddy & I went to S.Perth at tea-time & took Mrs. Murray a silver-plated cake dish inscribed "Mercedes 1913" in return for all her kindness in having the yacht built at her place. We got home again 5 minutes before children.

Sun. 28th December Daddy & I went to 9 Mass, the girls to 11. Phyl & Doll went to Zoo in aftn with Vera Howard & tea'd at her house afterwards. Mr. Hamilton spent the day with Claremont friends - Maudie stayed home.

Mon. 29th December Daddy took the girls, Mr. Hamilton & me to Como for a picnic. We caught the 9 boat home. Humf returned with severe cold from camping there. We met Mrs. Murray & Barbara on the jetty. Horace & his yachting party tea'd at their house, having to bring Eric back from Rottnest. Received a little book from Mrs. McGrade by post "The Dream of Gerontius".

Tues. 30th December Letter card from Leslie to Horace.

Wed. 31st December Posted letter & 2 handkerchiefs to Mrs. McGrade. Mr. Hamilton came to dinner & evening. Posted New Year cards to S.M. Claver & Mother Aquin. Received letters & card from Henry and May. Humf went to work yesterday, but stayed in bed all to-day.
